Book Week News

Book Week 2025 was celebrated with much joy and enthusiasm by everyone at SPS.

Book Week Dress-Up Day

In our wonderful SPS tradition of holding memory-making events for our students to participate in, last Thursday we had our annual Book Week Dress-Up Day and parade. It was lovely to see so many students - and staff - enthusiastically sharing their love of books and favourite book characters through their choice of costume. The parade is always one of the most joyous events on our calendar, and this year was no different!

2025 CBCA Short-listed Book Read Alouds

The whole school joined Alison's Webex Room each day last week at lunch eating time to hear some of our senior school students read a selection of this year's Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) short-listed books.  These are books which have been nominated for the 2025 Australian Children's Book of the Year.

This is always a fun Book Week activity, and allows all students to experience these wonderful books during Book Week.  Many thanks to the students who read the books aloud - Summer, Piper, Jake, Bodhi, Dante, Noah, Hannah, Harmony and James R.This is quite a daunting experience, and they all accomplished it with confidence and ease.

For those people who may be interested, the 2025 CBCA Book of the Year Awards were held on Friday 15th August.  There are several categories of book judged each year; of those most relevant to primary school-aged readers, the following books were the winners:

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to the Scoresby PS community for your support of our Scholastic Book Fair last week.  We hope you all enjoy your lovely purchases.

The funds raised through book sales at the Book Fair represent a significant commission for our school, which enable us to add to our school’s library book collection.  We were able to add over $750 worth of books to our Library this year as a result of Book Fair sales - for all students to enjoy for many years to come!

This event would not be possible without assistance and I would like to thank Scoresby PS Integration Aides Jenny, Tracey and Julie for their invaluable help during the Book Fair.  Thank you also to Tina in the office for her important assistance in making the Book Fair run as smoothly as possible.
