A message from Margie

Festival of Music choir

It was thrilling to see 19 of our students take to the stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last week for the Public Primary Schools Festival of Music Stars in The Arena. The students did so well representing our school, and we were very proud of them!  They even made it on to the TV news: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1702725603714802

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition. Some of you may remember performing yourselves when you were in school! The Choir gives students the chance to experience the joy of performance within a choir of over 1,300 Year 5 and 6 students. This year’s concert opened with Robbie Williams’ electrifying Let Me Entertain You and closed on a powerful high with John Farnham’s iconic You’re the Voice, complete with stirring bagpipes that lifted the arena.

We'd like to congratulate Louie Griffiths, who performed a key role as one of 4 special hosts for the evening! Louie had to audition and was chosen from many other students across South Australia for this special role. He has spent months rehearsing and did a brilliant job. What a star!

Stars on Stage was truly a spectacular celebration of what public school students can achieve when they come together through music and the arts. We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, passion, and brilliance on stage.

Off to the Flinders!

Our Year 6 students have had a wonderful week in the Flinders Ranges, hiking, exploring the beautiful flora and fauna, visiting art galleries, and enjoying the excellent facilities at Pichi Richi Park.  Thank you to Year 6 teacher Sallie Griffin for organising all aspects of the trip and offering this special experience to our graduating students.

A big thank you also to Ruth Donovan, Simon Vince and Rob Stewart for accompanying the students all week and assisting with activities. An additional thanks to Rob for driving the bus!  I think you will all sleep well tonight! 😊

School Sport SA Track and Field Championships

Congratulations to Ruby Cox, Callum Wilksch, Harry Rogers and Elsie Bailey, who all represented the Hills District last Friday at the SA Athletics Stadium. Callum represented the district in 100m, 200m and High Jump. He came 4th in all events, which is a fantastic achievement. Harry and Elsie competed in the relay, doing well for both their teams. Ruby Cox competed in the High Jump with a height of 1.34m. This put her in second place for all four divisions on both days of competition. She is now in contention of being selected for the State Team travelling to Canberra later this year. We all have our fingers crossed that she gets selected!

Gratitude

This brings us to the end of our whole-school focus on Gratitude for this term . All students have been reflecting on things around them that they are grateful for.  One of the tasks the students had to complete was to record a short clip to express their gratitude for a person or even a pet, that they know / have.  Click on the photos below to listen to Lilly and Georgia express their gratitude for people they have chosen.

Happy Holidays!

I wish you all a lovely holiday Spring break. I plan to get away camping in the Flinders, and I hope you all get a moment to connect with nature in the company of your kids, whether it be a bike ride, a walk, or just exploring the back garden. I know the children are looking forward to spending some relaxed time at home with their family. We all deserve it! 🌷

I look forward to seeing you all back here on Monday, October 13th. We invite you to the launch of our new indigenous garden beds, fountain and Acknowledgement 'Yuridla Piipawardli' sign at 9am on the first day of school.

Happy holidays!
