CELEBRATING ‘BOOK WEEK’ and CHARACTER PARADE – Monday 18th August

This year’s theme for Book Week was ‘Book an Adventure!’, so we really wanted to emphasise the experience of reading a book can take your imagination off onto an unexplored adventure. What you see and experience is an individual experience, with endless possibilities!

Monday was a wonderful celebration of ‘Book Week’, as staff and students dressed up as their favourite book characters connected to this year’s theme. It was amazing to see a variety of creative characters, ranging from traditional fairytales through to modern day books and movies. We had our character parade from 9.10am for everyone to share their costumes/characters. It was great to see so many parents and grandparents joining us!

Thank-you, parents/guardians, for your efforts in preparing your child/children for our fun celebration!

Please note that our Library Technician, Cas Foley, will be joining us at assembly this Friday to announce our favourite Early Childhood Shortlisted book for 2025 (F-2) and Picture Book (Yr 3-6) based on student votes. Winners to our Book Week competitions will also be drawn. Best of luck to all the students who have entered!

BOOK WEEK DOOR DISPLAYS – ‘Let your imaginations and creativity go wild!’

A whole-school activity that classes participated in throughout Book Week involved creating a door display in the classroom based on a favourite 2025 shortlisted book. Can you identify which book matches? Thank-you, teachers and students, for your efforts and creativity!

BIRTHDAY BOOK ADVENTURE (Repeat)

Each state and territory will hold a Birthday Book Adventure on Saturday 23 August.

Hosted by the State Branches, this will be a day of celebration that will bring readers together to enjoy themed activities, storytelling, and connections to 80 years of literary magic.

WELLINGTON SECONDARY COLLEGE MATINEE PERFORMANCE OF ‘THE WIZARD OF OZ ‘ Wednesday 27th August.

On Wednesday 27th August, Wellington Secondary College have invited our senior students to a matinee performance of their performance ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Having recently performed at our own school concert, our students will have a great opportunity for our students to see a performance at the next level.

Students in 4/5N, 5/6C and 5/6S will receive information about this excursion in coming days. Please keep an eye out for the required PARENT/GUARDIAN CONSENT and complete as soon as possible via COMPASS.

YEAR 2 SLEEPOVER – Thursday 28th August

Our Year 2 sleepover is next week on Thursday night. The sleepover is the first step in our Camping program for students, with the first steps in developing independence and cooperative skills when sleeping and waking away from home. Students will be involved in a range of fun afternoon and evening activities, a ‘camp style’ dinner, bedtime routines, and then waking in the morning and packing up their belongings and having a camp style breakfast together. Friday will be all about fun, cooperative Camp activities at school. I am sure our Year 2 students will learn much from the experience, in preparation for their offsite camp experiences next year.

SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY WEEK IS COMING UP! (Repeat)

Come along to the STEM room on Wednesday 27th August for a fabulous hour of science and technology. Things to make, do and see.....

PARENT/CAREGIVER/GUARDIAN OPINION SURVEY:

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025.

All families are invited to participate in the survey. Please look out for the invitation via Compass.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

Results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting and in the school newsletter. Last year we used the survey results to inform our Annual Implementation Planning and whole school review in 2025.Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
