Principal's Report
Dear BEPS community,
It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight at Burwood East Primary School, with students continuing to demonstrate our school values of Confidence, Respect, Resilience, Honesty and Resilience both in and out of the classroom.
Outstanding 2026 NAPLAN Results
I am delighted to share the exceptional results from this year's NAPLAN assessments, which reflect the dedication of our students, staff and families.
Our Year 3 students achieved outstanding proficiency results, with over 90% of students achieving Strong or Exceeding in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Numeracy, and 88% in Grammar & Punctuation. In every learning area, our students performed above both Like Schools and Local Schools.
Our Year 5 students also demonstrated exceptional learning growth. An impressive 9 out of every 10 students achieved Medium or High Growth across Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation and Numeracy. In four learning areas, 95% of students achieved medium or high growth, highlighting the significant progress students have made over the past two years.
These results are particularly pleasing because they demonstrate both high achievement and strong learning growth. High achievement tells us our students are performing at an excellent standard, while strong growth shows they are making significant progress regardless of their starting point. Together, these measures provide powerful evidence that our instructional practices, responsive teaching approaches and the hard work of our students are making a real difference.
These outstanding results reflect the collective commitment across our school community to ensuring every student continues to learn, create and inspire.
Attitudes to School Survey 2026
In addition to our outstanding NAPLAN results, we are also pleased to share the excellent outcomes from this year's Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS).
Each year, students in Years 4–6 complete the Victorian Government's Attitudes to School Survey, providing valuable feedback about their learning experiences, wellbeing, relationships and engagement at school.
Our 2026 results are extremely positive, with improvement recorded across all major outcome areas. These results reflect the strong culture we continue to build at Burwood East Primary School—one where students feel safe, connected, supported and challenged to achieve their personal best.
While we are proud of these outstanding results, we remain committed to continuous improvement. Over the coming weeks, staff will undertake a detailed analysis of the survey data to identify both our strengths and opportunities for further growth. This process will help inform our planning and ensure we continue to provide the highest quality learning and wellbeing experiences for every student.
Together, we are creating a school where students not only achieve excellent academic results but also develop the confidence, resilience and sense of belonging needed to thrive.
Principal's Learning Award Celebration
Congratulations to all students who received a Principal's Learning Award during Term 2. PLA Award recipients enjoyed a special Pizza Roll Lunch with the Leadership Team in the staffroom on Wednesday. It was wonderful to celebrate these students and acknowledge the positive learning behaviours, effort and perseverance recognised by their classroom teachers.
Well done to each recipient on this well-deserved achievement. We look forward to recognising many more students throughout the year.
Athletics Carnival
Today our Year 3–6 students participated in our annual Athletics Carnival, enjoying a fantastic day of competition, teamwork and school spirit.
Students proudly wore their house colours and enthusiastically participated in a range of track and field events, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and encouragement throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes to the many parent volunteers who generously gave their time to assist with events. Your support helped create a positive, well-organised and enjoyable day for everyone.
Congratulations to all students for representing their houses so well. The winning House will be announced at Monday's whole-school assembly.
Parking and Road Safety Reminder
Whitehorse City Council has advised the school that parking officers will continue to actively monitor and enforce parking and road safety regulations around Burwood East Primary School during both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
Families are reminded to:
- Observe all parking signs and time restrictions.
- Avoid stopping in no-standing or no-parking zones.
- Do not park across driveways or on nature strips.
Use designated crossing points and supervise children carefully around traffic.
Please be aware that fines are being issued for parking and traffic infringements.
These measures are in place to keep all members of our school community safe. We appreciate your support in following the road rules and helping ensure our students can arrive at and leave school safely.
