Learning 4 Life students begin Cultural Garden Project

Gallery Image

Students in the Learning 4 Life program at Aberfoyle Park High School have begun a project to extend the Cultural Garden space leading up to Student Services.

This initiative reflects our commitment to creating welcoming and functional environments for all members of our school community.

In the initial phase, the students embraced Design Thinking processes to plan and design the area. Working collaboratively, they shared ideas, drafted sketches and imagined how to transform the garden into a vibrant gathering place. Guidance from our school grounds staff provided them with knowledge of plants, garden preparation and landscaping fundamentals, which they immediately applied by clearing and preparing garden beds for future planting.

The project is proving invaluable for our Learning 4 Life boys, serving not only as a dynamic outdoor classroom but also as a platform for skill development. Alongside core construction tasks, the students are cultivating horticultural expertise, learning soil cultivation, propagation, dismantling aged garden beds and understanding the care requirements for a diverse range of plants.

Importantly, the program goes beyond hands-on experience. After each practical session, students engage in written reflections to assess their progress. This regular practice helps them critically evaluate their choices, strengthen their technical tool skills and connect their work to future pathways.

By blending environmental management, trade skills and literacy, the students are establishing a sustainable, living space, making a positive impact on our school community.

We look forward to witnessing the continued development of the Cultural Garden and celebrating the achievements of our Learning 4 Life students.

Middle School celebrates National Reconciliation Week

On Friday, 29 May, our Middle School community came together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week with an engaging lunchtime event focused on connection, learning and reflection.

The Cultural Connections team, together with our Student Presentative Council (SRC), worked hard to create a welcoming space for students. The event featured cupcakes, stickers, gecko fidget toys, temporary tattoos, face painting, jewellery making, mindful colouring activities and much more.

Students also participated in a rock painting workshop led by our ASETO, Brandon, while Aboriginal music played throughout the afternoon, creating a wonderful atmosphere of celebration and togetherness.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for students and staff to reflect on the significance of Reconciliation, fostering understanding, respect and stronger relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.

As part of our Reconciliation Week celebrations, we held a casual day fundraiser and are delighted to report that $361.55 was raised for the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA). These funds will support AHCSA’s vital work in improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities throughout South Australia.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and contributed to making this event a success.

Year 10 Learning 4 Life Design Thinking Project

Our year 10 Learning 4 Life students recently concluded their Design Thinking unit in a truly meaningful way, creating personalised gifts for the residents of Estia.

With empathy, creativity and problem-solving skills, students designed and crafted thoughtful presents tailored to individual residents interests and needs.

Recently, students had the opportunity to personally deliver their creations and spend time with the residents, who were delighted by the care and creativity evident in each gift.

Some of the imaginative gifts included beautifully beaded and decorated coasters, colourful sun catchers, handmade flowers, jewellery boxes, decorated vases, photo frames, mirrors, a hand-painted coffee mug, beaded plant holders and even a repurposed book transformed into a unique vase.

The smiles, conversations, and connections shared during the visit made the experience incredibly rewarding for all involved. It was wonderful to see our students use their learning to make a positive impact and build meaningful connections across generations.

We are extremely proud of our students for demonstrating kindness, compassion, and community spirit. Thank you to the residents and staff at Estia for welcoming us and helping make this such a memorable experience.

The Push-Up Challenge is on

Gallery Image

We are proud to announce that our students have taken on The Push-Up Challenge, which started last week, demonstrating their commitment to physical fitness and mental health awareness.

On Tuesday 2 June, our enthusiastic participants completed an outstanding 500 push-ups on Day 1 alone. This challenge is a test of physical endurance and aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

As of 11 June, the 2026 Push Up Challenge has officially reached its halfway point, and our participants are doing an outstanding job.

Together, the students taking part in the challenge have completed an impressive 1,780 push-ups so far during June. This achievement puts the group firmly on track to reach our target of 3,307 push-ups by the end of the month.

The challenge has been a fantastic display of commitment, perseverance, and teamwork. Every push-up completed contributes not only to individual fitness goals but also to educating all of our community about mental health in Australia.

With two weeks still to go, there is plenty of time to keep building momentum and finish the month strongly. We encourage all participants to stay focused, support one another, and continue giving their best effort.

Congratulations to everyone involved on reaching this important milestone. Keep up the great work as we push towards our goal of 3,307 push-ups for June.
