Learning News - Term 2, Weeks 5-6

English

K/1

Over the past couple of weeks in English, our K/1 students have been enjoying reading Ingenious Insects and exploring the fascinating world of insects through literature. As we read, students have been building their understanding of language by identifying and using verbs and adjectives to make their writing more detailed and engaging. We have also been learning how to put together complete sentences, focusing on using capitals, spacing and full stops. Alongside our writing, students have been practising correct letter formation to strengthen their handwriting skills and develop confidence as young writers. We are so proud of the enthusiasm and effort students are showing in their English learning!

2/3

This term, our fantastic Year 2/3 students have been exploring the magical world of descriptive language and science through our theme, "Seed to Sky." The classrooms have been buzzing with creativity as students use vivid, powerful adjectives to bring the life cycles of the Daintree Rainforest to life. Our young writers have been investigating the clever structures of rainforest plants—like the giant, pleated Bullkauri Tree —and tracking the amazing transformations of native animals, including the magnificent, flightless Southern Cassowary from a vibrant green egg

Year 4

Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been studying the children’s narrative “Just One Bee” by Margrete Lamond and Anthony Bertini, illustrated by Christopher Nielsen.  It is a story of an optimistic bee who dreams of restoring a desolate, flowerless wasteland into a blooming field. Against the odds, she perseveres past a pessimistic peer and brings her vision to life.  Visual literacy, looking closely at the pictures to understand the hidden message of the author, is a large part of this book and the students tried their hand at creating their own examples of visual literacy for an alternative book cover.  We hope you enjoy their work samples.

Great work Year 4!

5/6

As we’re near the end of our class novel ‘The Apprentice Witnesser’, students have enjoyed exploring the setting, analysing character and discussing the important themes presented throughout the story. All students have engaged in rich discussions and written responses, developing their comprehension skills, expanding their vocabulary and upleveling their writing to engage readers. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and curiosity students have shown while reading this AMAZING novel.
