Navigating the Mid-Term Slump

As we move through Week 6 of Term 2, many students (and adults!) can begin to experience the familiar “mid-term slump.” Motivation can dip, routines can start to feel harder to maintain, and with the colder weather settling in, getting out of bed in the morning can become a challenge, especially for those who don’t naturally love winter.

At this point in the term, it’s common for energy levels to feel lower. Students may notice they are feeling more tired, less motivated with schoolwork, or less inclined to socialise and stay active. While this is a very normal experience, it’s also an important time to prioritise wellbeing and maintain healthy routines.

Supporting Wellbeing During the Colder Months

When motivation drops, small habits often make the biggest difference. Encouraging young people to maintain healthy routines and stay engaged in activities that support their wellbeing can help reduce the build-up of stress and overwhelm.

Some helpful reminders for students and families include:

  • Maintaining regular sleep routines where possible

  • Continuing to make time for movement and physical activity

  • Staying socially connected, even when it feels easier to stay home

  • Balancing school responsibilities with activities that bring enjoyment and relaxation

  • Prioritising self-care and downtime to recharge

Often, wellbeing is not about making huge changes but rather continuing the small habits that help us feel grounded, connected and supported.

Wellness Wednesdays

A reminder that Wellness Wednesdays continue to run every Wednesday and all students are warmly welcome to come along and get involved. Over the past few weeks, we have focused on some fantastic initiatives including Check-In On Your Mate, Do It For Dolly Day, and IDAHOBIT Day, helping to promote kindness, inclusion, connection and positive mental health across our school community. Wellness Wednesdays are a great opportunity for students to connect with others, enjoy a fun activity or treat, and become familiar with the Wellbeing space in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
