Loddon Mallee Region Cross Country
Congratulations to Elke W, Hudson C, Sonny R, and Max H, who proudly represented Spring Gully Primary School and the Sandhurst Division at the Loddon Mallee Regional Cross Country Championships last Tuesday.
This prestigious event brought together the region’s top distance runners from North West, North Central, and Central Victoria and was held on a particularly wet and demanding course in St Arnaud.
In an outstanding achievement for our school, Elke (5th), Hudson (5th), and Sonny (6th) all finished within the top 12 of their respective age groups, earning qualification for the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships to be held in Yarra Glen later this year. This is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to their hard work and determination.
Max also produced an excellent performance, finishing 20th in his race and competing strongly against a highly talented field. He should be extremely proud of his efforts.
Congratulations to all four students on their remarkable achievements and for representing our school with such pride and sportsmanship.
Division Hockey Champions!
Congratulations to our Girls Hockey Team, who proudly represented Spring Gully Primary School at the Division Championships on Friday, 29 May.
The girls played outstanding hockey throughout the day, winning all three of their round-robin matches against Boort Primary School, White Hills Primary School, and Strathfieldsaye Primary School’s mixed team. Their strong form continued into the grand final, where they faced Boort once again and secured a convincing 3–0 victory to claim the Division Championship.
In an impressive team performance, the girls did not concede a single goal throughout the entire tournament, highlighting their excellent teamwork, determination, and defensive efforts.
As Division Champions, the team has now qualified for the Regional Finals in Swan Hill on 13 August. We wish them every success as they continue their journey. A sincere thank you also goes to Narelle Dalley for her outstanding work coaching the team. With many of the girls having little or no experience playing competitive hockey, Narelle's guidance, encouragement, and expertise helped them develop their skills and confidence in a remarkably short period of time.
Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic achievement.
Richmond AFLW Footballers Visit
Last week, we were fortunate to welcome several Richmond AFLW players to our school as part of the AFL Community Camps program. The visit generated great excitement, with students thrilled to meet some of their sporting heroes.
AFLW 2023 Best and Fairest winner Monique Conti, Richmond captain Gabby Seymour, and key off-season recruit Dana East spent time speaking with students about their journeys to the AFLW. They shared valuable insights into their careers, answered a wide range of thoughtful questions, and generously signed autographs for students.
The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear firsthand about the dedication, resilience, and hard work required to succeed at the elite level of sport. The players were fantastic role models and left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
We are extremely grateful to Monique, Gabby, and Dana for taking the time to visit our school and engage so warmly with our students. We look forward to following their careers with great interest and wish them every success for the season ahead.
Deborah District Athletics
Congratulations to those students who have qualified to represent the school at the Deborah District Sports on Monday the 22nd June. These students have been informed of their selection and have received a program for the day.
Further information has been sent out via Compass.
