Assistant Principal's Report

This week’s e-safe topic:Talking About Online Sexual Abuse with 0-12 Year Olds
It’s never too early to have online safety conversations with children. Being aware of what they’re doing online can help you talk with them in ways that are best suited to protecting them from child sexual abuse and other risks.
On this page:
- What to talk about with your child – online experiences, asking for help, body safety, respectful relationships, recognising unsafe situations
- What to expect and how to talk about it from birth
- What to expect and how to talk about it from age 5
- What to expect and how to talk about it from age 8
- More information – including on the coming social media changes

Semester Report and Learning Task Update
Families will notice that descriptive comments are not included with Term 2 Learning Tasks and the Semester 1 Report. This is due to the timeline of the recent industrial action taken by the Australian Education Union and is in line with guidance from DET. As a progressive reporting school, this information is applicable to both parts of our reporting package.
Your child’s Learning Tasks this term will include an overview, work sample (learning artefact) and grading statement. The Semester Reports will provide important details about your child’s learning progress and engagement; including progression points against the Victorian Curriculum, assessment of their Approaches to Learning and the Student Comment.
Parent / Teacher Conferences on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st July will provide the opportunity for families to discuss the progress of their child with their teacher.
Please contact Francis or myself if you require any additional information.

The 3/4 and 5/6 camps will be presented for endorsement at next weeks' School Council meeting. The proposed camp dates are:

The approximate cost for each camp is $450 per student.
Families wishing to spread the cost over time are encouraged to contact the office to arrange a payment plan. Further information, including itineraries and consent details, will be shared by the 3/4 and 5/6 teaching teams early in Term 3.

10 Questions to Ask Your Son Instead of “How Was Your Day?”
This flyer was shared with me last week and prompted me to reflect on the questions I ask my own teenage children at the end of the day.
“How was your day, mate?”
“Good.”“Alright.”
Sound familiar?
Over the past few days, I’ve tried some of the question prompts from this flyer and noticed a positive difference in the conversations that followed. I encourage you to give them a try at home—you might be pleasantly surprised by the responses.
