Principal's Report

School Trading
I wanted to make families aware that we have received reports of some students trading, and in some cases selling, items at school. As a reminder, trading of personal items is not permitted at school. Unfortunately, these situations often lead to disagreements when one student later changes their mind and wishes to reverse the trade, only to find that the item has already been traded on to someone else. This can create unnecessary conflict and distress for the students involved.
We ask that families please reinforce this message at home and encourage children to keep valuable or collectable items at home. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a positive and respectful school environment.
Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)
We have nearly completed administering the AtoSS with our students, with just Mr Greer's class still to do this tomorrow. This annual student survey in Years 4, 5 and 6 provides the students with an opportunity to provide feedback to the school.
We will provide the results of this survey with our community soon.
Victorian Government School Principal's Conference
On 28 and 29 May, Brett and I attended the 2026 Victorian Government School Principals Conference. This annual conference provides principals with the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers on current educational trends impacting our schools and the broader community.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was a prominent topic throughout the conference, particularly the pace at which the technology is evolving. The Department acknowledged that it has taken a cautious approach to AI implementation, while recognising that many schools, including our own, are already exploring how AI can be used to enhance teaching and learning. This is a rapidly developing area, and schools are increasingly collaborating to ensure that the use of AI is purposeful, accurate, ethical, and genuinely enhances student learning.
There is little doubt that AI will continue to influence educational practice in the years ahead, and that our students will also be experimenting with and engaging with these technologies. Part of our responsibility as educators is to equip students with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and safeguards they need to use AI safely, responsibly, and productively.
Another key theme of the conference centred on student wellbeing and the role schools play in supporting young people and their families. There was considerable discussion about how, as an education system, we can strengthen support pathways and improve access to services to better respond to the increasingly complex needs of students and families. Ensuring that every student feels safe, connected, and supported remains fundamental to their ability to thrive both academically and personally, and this work will continue to inform our practice into the future.
