Dear Families,
Over the last week ANZAC Day has been alive and well at St John's. You may have noticed the beautiful Art Work around the school and the children's work in this area in the corridors. Our Year 5-6 students and staff attended the ANZAC Ceremony at Euroa Secondary College with Year 6 student Harry Canata reading a verse of 'In Flanders Field'. We celebrated our own Liturgy in the Mercy Centre with all year levels present. This year we also made our own wreaths for the ANZAC services in Euroa last Thursday, which were very beautiful and meaningful for the children. So much history here in Euroa with our children having a greater understanding of what ANZAC Day means and our appreciation and gratitude for the men and women who gave their lives, so that we can live in the beautiful, peaceful country that we do!
'Lest We Forget'
Aimee McCartney has started our new mural on the Binney Street side of the Mercy Centre! Aimee is a proud Taungurung women and is very excited to complete our mural after liasing with the children about what is important to them in our local area. We can't wait for Aimee's next visit when the mural will really start to take shape. Aimee has done some beautiful work around the Euroa community at Goodstart Early Learning Centre, the Secondary College and the Community Garden.
Mother's Day is nearly upon us, Sunday 12th May. Once again we will share this special day on Friday 10th May with mum's, grandmothers, aunties and special people in the children's lives. We will start the celebrations with a liturgy in the Mercy Centre at 1pm, followed by afternoon tea for our guests and then everyone is invited to the classrooms for the 'Mum's Pampering'. The children will be out playing during morning tea and won't be able to come into the Mercy Centre due to hot drinks and safety. We will have the Mother's Stall on Friday morning 10th May for children to purchase a gift. Gifts have been locally sourced from around Euroa and will be $10. Thank you to Hannah Capstick and Hayley Raglus for their organisation for this lovely event.
As communicated to families yesterday via email, our Deputy Principal, Libby Hamilton has been seconded by CES to work with new Principal Steve Hicks at St Mels in Shepparton. This is a great opportunity for Libby and we wish her all the very best and look forward to her return.
Sean Mason, Principal from FCJ College in Benalla will be visiting St John's next Thursday 9th May to speak with our Year 5-6 students about life transitioning into Secondary School. He will be accompanied by two of our 2023, Year 6 students. Sean will also be available from 3:15 until 4:30pm to meet with any parents in regard to enrolment at FCJ for your children. This is an informal but informative chat with Sean and will be held in the Board Room.
Our annual Cross Country event is on this Friday, this is a great day for the children! They have been running laps around the oval each morning in preparation as we try to run as far around Australia as we can. The year 3-6's will run the course at the Sevens Creek from 11:40 and the Foundation to Year 2 students are scheduled to run around the school oval from 2pm. Melinda would be very grateful for any parent assistance to marshall at the Sevens Creek course and you are welcome to come and cheer the children on.
I look forward to celebrating Mother's Day with all our mums and special friends next Friday 10th May. Due to Cross Country there will be no Assembly this week.
Until next fortnight
Therese
