STEM Term 2

Welcome back! Term 2 has already kicked off with a bang in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This term, students in Grades 3-6 are consolidating their knowledge of Physical Sciences through Digital Technologies. Students in Prep - Grade 2 are learning about Earth and Space Sciences.

Just Dance Club will be on Wednesday's and Thursday's at lunch for Grade 5&6 students in the STEM room!

Prep - Grade 2:

Our Prep - Grade 2’s will be learning about Earth and Space Sciences! Students will investigate the impact of Earths rotations to cause day and night. They will learn about weather patterns and the impact that the weather has on us humans and animals! Students will use the Design Thinking Process to protect an animal against a weather event.

Science concepts:

Earth is the shape of a ball

Earth spins, or rotates, to cause day and night

Weather events occur regularly on Earth and include wind, rain, thunderstorms, hail, snow and fog.

Weather is temporary

Seasons effect daily life

Grade 3-4:

Last term, students learnt about forces, including magnetism. They used The Design Thinking Process to design a game that used magnets. This term, students will spend the first few weeks finishing their design and then create a Stop Motion film about their design to showcase their understanding of forces.

Grade 5-6:

Last term, the Grade 5’s and 6’s learnt about how light can be blocked, reflected and refracted. This term, they are communicating their understanding of light to an audience. This is a chance for students to showcase their creativity in a way that is meaningful to them - this might be coding a game or quiz, making a stop motion or an informative video about light.
