Performing Arts Term 2
Prep
This Term will be all about the Preps starting on their instrument lessons. They will be focussing on keyboard and ukulele. We will be using lots of hands on activities and games to scaffold their learning.
For keyboard lessons, Preps will be learning:
- how to set keyboards up, including using the headphones
- identifying C, D, E on the keyboards
- identifying C, D, E on the treble stave
- reading/labelling/playing sheet music
For ukulele lessons, Preps will be learning:
- how to hold the ukulele and position/coordinate their hands
- strumming patterns with down strokes
- holding frets to play C, A, M chords
- reading/labelling/playing TAB
Of course there will be lots of time for singing and dancing along to different nursery rhymes and some of favourite songs.
Grade 1/2
This Term will be all about the 1/2 students continuing their instrument lessons. They will be focusing on keyboard and ukulele. We will be using lots of hands on activities and games to scaffold their learning.
For keyboard lessons, 1/2 students will be learning:
- how to set keyboards up, including using the headphones
- identifying all white keys on the keyboards
- identifying all notes on the treble stave
- reading/labelling/playing sheet music
For ukulele lessons, Preps will be learning:
- how to hold the ukulele and position/coordinate their hands
- strumming patterns with down and up strokes
- holding frets to play basic chords
- reading/labelling/playing TAB
Grade 3-6
This Term, Grade 3/4 students are working towards learning a song on their instrument of choice. To start with, students will be able to choose from keyboard, ukulele or guitar.
Students start all together, then move through different stages or levels at their own pace.
- Stage 1: practicing and activating knowledge through different games and hands on activities
- Stage 2: choose an instrument and method of playing, and preparing the sheets or charts
- Stage 3: independent practice of the song
- Stage 4: sharing or performing the finished piece
- Stage 5: moving on to a harder piece or new instrument
Students will work through these stages independently, as well as connect with myself and peers to support them.
