From the Principal

Rudy Vail

Dear Parents/Carers,

Canteen time Changes

I'm writing to inform you of an upcoming change in our school's canteen hours, which will be implemented starting next week, Friday 10th May, until the remainder of Term 2.

This year, for Interschool Sport, OLHC has been placed into the Eltham/Monty small schools pool where we will be competing with smaller schools similar to our size. This has resulted in a change of time with Interschool Sports now being conducted from 12.00-2.15 pm on a Friday.

To align with our students' participation, we are adjusting the canteen operating hours. The canteen will now be open on Fridays from 11:00 am to 11:40 am.

Rest assured, there will be no alterations to our ordering process or menu offerings. Students will still have the option to order a hot lunch and treats from the canteen, which they can enjoy starting from 11:00 am.

During the 1:25 pm lunch break, parents ordering lunch orders may opt to pack a smaller lunch or snack for their children. Families who do not order from the canteen can continue to provide their children with regular play lunch and lunch options.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we make this adjustment to better accommodate our students' extracurricular commitments.

Professional Learning for 3-6 Teachers in Mathematics

We are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our ongoing efforts to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics here at OLHC. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and in line with our annual action plan, our Years 3-6 teachers will be participating in professional learning opportunities focused on Mathematics.

Our teachers will be attending the Teaching for Impact in Mathematics (TIM) Series, a comprehensive program designed to empower educators with the latest research-backed strategies and resources to elevate mathematics instruction in our classrooms. Here's a glimpse into what the TIM Series entails:

  • One-day Workshop: Teachers and school leaders will engage in a one-day workshop that draws upon robust research and evidence-based practices. This workshop will equip our teachers with concrete techniques that can be implemented immediately in the classroom.
  • Self-Reflection and Coaching: Each teacher will embark on a self-reflection and video instructional coaching cycle, allowing for personalised professional growth and refinement of teaching practices.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Structured opportunities will be provided for teachers to collect and reflect on student outcomes data, enabling informed decision-making and targeted interventions to support student progress.
  • Leadership Development: In addition to the teacher-focused workshop, school leaders and myself will attend the Leading TIM for Primary workshop to equip us with the knowledge and skills necessary to support us to embed best practices within our school community.

We believe that these initiatives will not only benefit our teachers but also have a direct and positive impact on the learning outcomes of our students.

Warm regards,

Rudy Vail
