Street Science - LIVE show
What a way to kick off Term 2! The whole school was treated to a live science show thanks to our partnership with Street Science. I hope your child/(ren) came home with a lot of wonderings, and curiosity about the world around us.
Prep
Due to the change in the timetable and STEAM temporarily becoming a Specialist subject, the Preps have commenced their STEAM journey. A real focus this term is on teamwork and our school values (Respect, Responsibility, Curiosity and Personal Excellence).
In groups, students were given the challenge of building a suitable house for one of the Three Little Pigs using only the materials provided (think playing cards, sticks, toothpicks, etc). Mr Whitten and I were then able to play the role of our lives as the Big Bad Wolf!
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 started this term being introduced to our LEGO SPIKE Essential Kits. After reading Mr. Ferris and His Wheel, students built a Ferris Wheel using the Kits.
Week 2 saw our students getting stuck into their Animated Wonders Program that will run for the whole term.
You will not believe the engineering skills they will develop this term!
Year 3/4
Students have commenced the Cyber Castle Challenge Season 1. The first season focuses on identifying assets and threats. They must protect their chickens (personal information) from the foxes (threats) in MineCraft EDU. It has started to introduce them to a diverse range of cyber security role models and potential careers. By the end of this program, students will be able to make connections with how cyber security impacts their lives and their futures.
I personally spent a lot of time during the holidays in this Challenge and I can confirm that it is quite addictive (in a great educational way)!
Year 5/6
Year 5/6 students have started developing their film making skills and were incredible with using a green screen for this first time. In small groups, students had to select a scenario, write a short script, select an image for the background, record in front of the green screen AND put it all together in iMovie.
