 Foundation/1

It has been a busy time in the Foundation/1 classes over the past fortnight with lots of learning happening from everyone. The students are learning to write narrative texts, including planning, drafting, editing and finalising. In pairs this week, they have planned their stories and have made a great start to their writing.

As part of their Jolly Grammar focus on alphabetical ordering, the year 1 students have enjoyed learning how to use a dictionary. They had a task of finding the very first word of certain letters and found it interesting that each dictionary had a different words.

In Maths our students have continued to work on their knowledge of numbers, doing skip counting, identifying numbers before and after and representing numbers in different ways using concrete materials.  We have also been learning about the seasons and students can describe how the weather changes throughout the year. This links in with the work we have been doing in our Inquiry unit 'Our Sustainable World'.  We have started our experiment to grow our own vegetables in our classroom, making sure to give these vegetables what they need to sustain them.

Cross Country

Wow what a great event! Everyone joined in and gave it their best!  It was lovely to see everyone dressed in their house colours.

After we had a chance to relax and cool down, the students wrote a recount about the experience. Here are a few examples.

Grade 2

This Term in Inquiry we are learning about sustainability. We will be looking at ways we can sustain our environment by reducing, reusing and recycling rubbish and investigating how long things take to decompose. Last week students started an investigation by burying a piece of rubbish from our classroom bin, they will be digging it up at the end of the unit to see if it has decomposed or not! They are looking forward to seeing the results!

On Tuesday we took what we are learning in Maths to the Age Care. Students performed the days of the week and months of the year song and then completed word searches!

All students did an amazing job!

It was fantastic to see all students participate and earn house points on Wednesday in the school cross country! They all did a terrific job!

Have a wonderful weekend!
