Principal's Report

A warm welcome to Term 2 and hoping that everyone enjoyed their time away from the school routine. It has been terrific chatting with the students and hearing about their holiday events.

Unfortunately, the holiday period did not bring any relief to the concerning events that are happening in our world, both close and afar, in fact it seems the events are intensifying and more frequent.  It is hard to understand a lot of what is happening when our entire community emphasises care, respect and trust so well.

Here at Windsor, we will continue to promote these things in an effort to at least treat these events as problems and to not be complacent.  The day of mourning on Monday in response to the Bondi Junction situation was an important part of not being complacent – that these events need to impact us and that they are not to become part of normal living.

Presently, we are aware of the way some students are speaking to others or each other as the words and the tone being used does not represent care, respect and trust.  We are making an all-out effort for zero tolerance on this use of language and delivery.  It is really tough for kids at the moment where there is so much acceptance (and even celebration) of poor behaviour online.  Managing exposure is important but giving our kids the ability to critically assess these behaviours is also important.

I do not think that the online world is going anywhere, so the key is equipping our children with the ability to ethically assess behaviours before adapting them to their lives.

We are in for a very exciting term with the pinnacle for some being our three-day camp at Phillip Island and I am looking forward to everything that we have planned for the next ten weeks.
