Forest School

Forest School has been a flurry of activity around Horticulture and we have been learning about seasonal planting both is vegetables and other plants.

Grade three and four students assisted in planting a new herb garden with mint and lemon thyme by the wicking beds. We used found items such as leftover glazed pots that were laying about waiting for a job to do. We also repurposed some large soup tureens with cracks in them, which made terrific planter pots! They’re cute too. Anya relayed stories about her grandmother teacher her how to garden which was lovely as Forest School regularly involves sharing of wisdom from past generations.

The silver beet from last week’s planting session was gratefully gobbled up by the local birds, who clearly do not enjoy kale so we have a few replacement plants and THIS WEEK a trusty net to cover all the new plantings over with.

Each senior class group starts their session with a cooperative team game and the students taught Mrs. Tulloch a terrific game called Possum which they learned from Sarah last term. Whilst the games involve much hilarity, they are also very important opportunities for ALL students to practise leadership and problem, solving strategies and we look forward to them every week.
