SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING

@TPS IN TERM 2

Throughout term 2, students from Foundation to Year 6 will participate in social and emotional learning activities from the Respectful Relationships Program, that are designed to help students understand the importance of seeking help when dealing with problems that are too big to solve alone. This helps to normalize and destigmatize help-seeking behaviour. Scenario-based activities help students identify situations in which help should be sought, identify trusted sources of help, and practice seeking help from peers and adults.

In week 3, students in Years 3 – 6 will participate in workshops facilitated by PROJECT ROCKIT. Each 90-minute workshop is designed to reduce the impact and prevalence of bullying.

Our 3/4 students will take part in the UNITE workshop, which builds a shared understanding of what bullying is and how it impacts those targeted. Students will be empowered with strategies to promote a culture of taking action to support each other.

Our 5/6 students will take part in the SYNC workshop. This is an empowering introduction to the digital world, exploring opportunities and challenges of online communication, as well as providing strategies to navigate conflict online.

APRIL IS AUTISM MONTH

Autism Month, held each April, is all about acknowledging the strengths, achievements, and uniqueness of people on the Autism spectrum.

People on the Autism spectrum are often great at remembering things, solving problems, knowing lots and being honest.

They may have a different way of communicating and understanding the world and be sensitive to noise, bright lights and smells.

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation.  She considers her Autistic traits to be her ‘super power’.

We would also like to take this chance to to highlight some excellent services that support people on the Autism spectrum.
