From the Principal

What an amazing sight for those fortunate enough to see the geomagnetic storms that caused the Aurora Australis over the weekend.  The kaleidoscope of colours was fascinating and stunning. The last time this event took place in Australia was in 2003.

District Cross Country

Congratulations to the PPS cross country team who competed at Karkarook Park on Tuesday.

The PPS team placed first overall which is an outstanding result. Good luck to the students who go through to the Division cross country. Once again, our students demonstrated great team spirit and behaviour.  Thank you to Mr A and the staff that assisted with training the children.

Open Morning

On Wednesday we held an open morning for prospective parents for 2025.  Our School, House, and Vice Captains took parents for the school tours.  This allowed the parents to gain a student’s perspective about the school.  We received positive feedback about the PPS students about how confident, personable, and articulate the children were.

Grade 5 Incursion

On Monday the Grade 5 students had an incursion on Positive Peer Relationships. The day involved building personal and social skills to enhance the quantity and quality of interpersonal interactions.

Foundation Breakfast

Last Wednesday the foundation students enjoyed wearing their pyjamas to school and having breakfast.  Pancakes, toast, and fruit were on the menu.  There were plenty of smiles and the children had a great time, to quote one child “best day ever”.

Book Fair – Friday 17th May: 9am-11am

QBD Books (Southland) will be holding a book fair tomorrow morning (17th May at Parkdale Primary, in recognition of the school celebrating its 100th year.

Location— School Gym

The book fair is a way for parents to give back to the school, a book from their family that the children can enjoy for years to come. A book plate will be available on the day for you to write your family name and child ’s year level on, and this will then be placed into the book for the future generations to see who has graciously left them the gift of learning.

There will be a wide assortment of books for all age levels across picture books, fiction books and non-fiction books for you to be able to purchase for school. EFTPOS will be available on the day.

This book event is being organized by a former PPS student, Katrina, who attended the school from 1987—1993, and whose love of reading was fostered here "by the many wonderful teachers who were then present".

Junior Mayor

On Thursday 23rd May students from the local Kingston schools will participate in Kingston’s Junior Mayor. The PPS team this year:  Lily Mc, Saana S, Mackenzie S, Ben C.

The topic this year is: If you could add to the vision of a child-friendly creative Kingston, what would your ideas be?  At the conclusion of all speeches, the students in attendance vote for their favourite speech and a new Junior Mayor for the year.

Prep/Foundation Enrolments 2025

Enrolments for 2025 are now open for foundation/prep students. To our current families with a child/children commencing Prep in 2025, please ensure you fill out the enrolment form and return to the office by the due date, 26th July.

Unwell Students

Unfortunately, it is that time of the year when colds and flu symptoms seem to be a common occurrence. We appreciate that attendance is important, however, if your child has symptoms and is unwell, please keep them at home, this will help stop the spread of colds and flu to other children and staff.  We have also had a few cases of Gastro; a reminder children should not be sent to school until 48 hours after the last episode.

Kind regards

Leanne Bradney
