Year 8 Product Design

Designing passive speakers

This term in product design we used our creativity to design our very own passive speaker! A passive speaker is an object that amplifies sound using its shape. It had to be; eco-friendly, a reflection of our personality, and would fit our mobile phones. It was very interesting to see how everyone listened to the design brief and completed the project with their style and interests. First, the class learned about what a passive speaker was and researched and brainstormed examples of our own. Then, we refined our design on paper creating the final design, my design was a piece of toast with jam in the middle. I used Adobe Illustrator to create my design I would later laser cut and then glue together to create my final speaker. Some students used mixed materials such as wood and acrylic, some students used the laser cutter, others hand-made them or 3d printed them. All the students' designs were diverse and unique to the individual, making this term very fun and interesting.
