Creative opportunities in Music, Media, Visual and Performing Arts

 

Every year the JMC Academy runs a series of creative competitions. See below a link for the website for information and for a summary of the four main competitions.

Let the relevant faculty know if you would like some support in putting together an entry and win a prize, get some fame and more importantly make something fun. Each competition is open for students who wish to make something in the performing arts, music, media and art areas.

Mocktail Film Awards: 

Year 9-12 Students can submit their best short fiction, short documentary, short animation, television commercial or music video clip, which industry professionals will review. You can check out the 2023 winners here.  The judges seek originality, emotional impact, performance, direction and low-budget initiative.   Submissions for the 2024 Mocktail Film Award close on Sunday 30th June 2024 at 11:59 pm 

 

Canvas Art Award   Your students could win a Wacom One Creative Pen Display!  JMC is excited to run the popular Canvas Award Art Competition for 2024, showcasing the incredible work of young artists and designers from all around NSW, Victoria and QLD who are taking creativity to the next level.   The Challenge: Creatively interpret the below into an illustrative scene:  "A creature in its native environment"   Entrants must Include:  A Rubber Duck somewhere in your scenes   Check out the competition page for full entry requirements including the various types of media that can be submitted.    Submissions for the 2024 Canvas Art Award close on Sunday 30th June 2024. 

 

JMC Songwriting Competition   Your students could win the opportunity to work with JMC Academy staff to record, mix and master their song valued at $2,500!  Entrants must submit a demo of an original song (that they've written individually or as a team) and the lyrics to the song in written form.  The demo can simply be recorded on a phone (we just want to hear the song performed!) and only include the vocals, however, instrumental accompaniment is encouraged. They're welcome to record the demo in other ways too if they have the means.  Submissions for the 2024 Songwriting Competition close on Saturday 31st August 2024 11:59 pm AEST 

 

JMC Monologue Competition   Students could win a professional showreel recording and season tickets to your state theatre company's 2025 season!  Entrants must submit a creative and entertaining delivery of a monologue of their choice. They have total creative freedom to deliver this monologue in whatever way they see fit - comedy, drama, musical - go all out!   They should think about costumes, sets, props and locations to add a bit of flair to their performance.   Students can enter 2 self-tapes to try out a few styles and monologues. They can even record this on their phone and try to get the best quality possible, so our judges can hear and see them.    Submissions for the 2024 Monologue Competition close on Wednesday 31st July 2024 11:59 pm AEST
