Year 7 Tennis team, through to State finals
The Year 9/10 baseball team played an excellent 4 games of baseball. Tying the first game, we proceeded to win the next 3, each by an impressive margin. Oscar Naughton pitched a wonderful 2 games, along with Belle O'Brien who brought the competition to a close. Everyone had great bats and together managed to lead Northcote to a victory at regionals.

Our Intermediate Baseball Team now have qualified to progressed through to the State Finals in May. We wish the team well.
The intermediate girls' softball team played at the Regional tournament in Craigieburn. It was a great day full of excitement. The girls ultimately won 1 game and lost 2, leaving them in third place. There was some great performance across the board in both fielding and batting. Most importantly everyone had so much fun!

The day started out strongly for the NHS Senior Girls with a big win over Preston. The first half was a tight affair with NHS just getting the better of the contest, but in the second-half NHS kicked away to secure a seven goal win.
The following game vs SEDA was a hard fought battle with both sides playing a tough contested brand of footy. Unfortunately, NHS was soon without a bench, but those on-field still gave their all right until the final siren, which sounded with the ball in our forward line and the margin less than a goal in SEDA's favour.
The third game vs Thornbury would decide which team progressed to Regionals and both schools approached it with the fierce competitive spirit befitting a final. There was a strong crowd presence too, as the Boys' teams from both schools brought the cheers and jeers and all the atmosphere befitting the occasion. Unfortunately, Thornbury managed to make the most of their chances and took the win.
The NHS players finish the day with their heads held high though and much to be proud of. Among the bests were Allie and Jess running through midfield, Ella D and Isla rock solid in defence, and Emmerson and Jade providing the firepower in the front half.

The senior boys' football team have progressed through to the Regionals which is to be played in July.
Demonstrating a dynamic cohesiveness, they narrowly lost two SEDA before comprehensive victories against Thornbury and Preston. Clearly, the team was adventurous and incisive with its ball use capitalising on opposition turn overs.
Zac Henderson and Noah Robertson were prolific through the midfield, Sam Evans provided run off half back and Tiger Whittle fought hard in the ruck. Whilst Tom Sweetman was a presence at full forward for the entire day, it was perhaps his chase down tackles that embodied the team first ethos. Most importantly, the boys displayed excellent sportsmanship and humility throughout all games.

The seniors had a great day out on badminton last Monday 29 April. The girls winning 2 out of their 3 games, whilst one player short! The B boys team going through undefeated, and the A boys making it to finals against Reservoir! It was a great day, and the students had a lot of fun!

On Wednesday last week, we went to Regional Tennis. The girls played schools such as Hume, Hazelglen and Macleod. The boys played against Greensborogh , Hume, and Mill Park and managed to win one of their matchups. All schools put up a fair fight but unfortunately at the end of the day both the boys and girls didn’t make it to the next round. Everyone had a great time thanks to Ms Dridan and Mr Boyce!

On Friday the 3rd of May, Leon, Oscar G, Liam and I, headed off to Hume Tennis Centre in Craigieburn to compete in our Regional tennis competition. I was replacing Oscar S. today because he was injured and unable to play. We all arrived at school just after 8:30 am and were driven by Ms. Paterson to the venue. It was around a 40-minute drive, so we used the time wisely and discussed our game plan for the day.
Once we got there, we had time to do our stretches and warm up on the court before we all came together to find out the format for the day. We all needed to play a doubles and a singles match against each school and the first person, or team to win four games would win the match. The school that won the most games from all of their matches would take the win. The first school that we played was Viewbank College ,we won easily moving on to play the next team, Hume, this was their home ground and we thought they wouldn't be easy to beat but we won again. The final school in our group was Mill Park and we took the win comfortably to seal our place in the final against Aitken!
We were down by one game after the singles matches but Liam and I managed to win our doubles match 4-0 to put us ahead by three games. That meant that Leon and Oscar only had to win two games to seal the victory. However, Leon and Oscar had no idea how many games they needed to win. They lost their first game to put the scores at 1-0 but they came back in their second game to level the scores at 1-1.If the outcome was a draw, Leon would have to play their best player in one game to decide the winner. That didn’t happen, Leon and Oscar won their second game and nothing could stop us now, we were the Regional champions! They had no idea we were going to State because they were still in the middle of their match taking the win 4-1.
Exhausted but still smiling we received our blue flag and headed back to school.Knowing that we were the Regional champions and representing our school against other schools in Victoria was so exciting. We will play as a team of five with Oscar S for our shot at state champions in late November.

Well done to our Year 7 Baseball team who competed in Regionals at Craigieburn on Friday May 3. They boys played well considering we only had a few players who had played baseball before. The others picked up the game quickly with the help of our student coaches, Belle O’Brien and Oscar Naughton. The team ended up with a loss against Viewbank and Montmorency, and an amazing win against Princes Hill.
A big thank you to Belle and Oscar for coaching and scoring, they did a great job.
On Monday this week, Northcote brought out two teams to play senior netball at the Narrandjeri Stadium. A day of defeat and celebration, with Northcote Girls A having a strong start and winning the finals.
Students were supportive and encouraging of everyone involved, big shoutout to Sabatinie and Ms Flemming for coaching and Pauline for supporting both teams. Thank you for everyone who showed up.
