Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships:     Be Strong. Be Kind. Be You.

Last term we introduced the message ‘Respectful Me + Respectful You = Safe Community’, which is displayed on a banner outside your school. In your Respectful Relationships lessons throughout Term 4 last year, you would have learnt about the importance of demonstrating respect and inclusion so everyone in our community can feel safe. When people don’t feel respected or included, it can make them feel unsafe, which nobody should have to feel. In your classrooms you would have learnt about the characteristics of safe and respectful relationships, whether they be with our classmates, teachers, friends, family, or members of the broader community. From these messages, we know that we all have a role to play in being respectful and inclusive so we can create a safe community for all.

This term we are introducing a new message ‘Be Strong. Be Kind. Be You’. This message focuses on the importance of understanding ourselves and other people. In your classrooms this term, you will be learning about how to understand, express and manage your own emotions and how to appropriately respond to the emotions of others. Understanding our own and others’ feelings helps us to treat others with empathy and kindness.

This message is also about identifying our own personal strengths and positive qualities and those of others. It is about recognising how we all have unique personal strengths and positive qualities that make valuable contributions to our classrooms, school, and community.
