Welcome to the 2024 MGC School Year

Principal's Report

A Year of Growth, Community Connection and Excellence

As the principal of Melbourne Girls’ College, it is my immense pleasure to welcome you to the start of the 2024 school year! Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning as a valued member of our school community, your energy, passion, and dedication is what makes MGC a vibrant and exceptional place for learning and growth.

I would like to congratulate the 2023 Year 12 graduates on their destination data. This information not only showcases their hard work and determination but also highlights the exceptional guidance and support provided by MGC staff and the broader college community.

Our graduates have embarked on diverse paths, each reflective of their unique talents, interests, and aspirations. From securing placements in respected universities, both locally and interstate, to stepping into promising careers, apprenticeships, and community service projects, their achievements are a testament to their resilience and commitment to excellence.

The success of our Year 12 students is a collective triumph. It speaks volumes about the environment of our college, where students are encouraged to pursue their passions, challenge their limits, and prepare for the future with confidence and a sense of responsibility.

We have already had two weeks of a smooth and positive start, marked by engaging parent information nights, spirited assemblies, and a special welcome night for our Year 7 families. These events have set a wonderful tone for the year ahead, highlighting the enthusiasm and commitment of our entire school community.

The introduction of our new Year 7 to 12 Homegroup and Wellbeing structure has also been overwhelmingly positively received by our students and teachers and it represents a pivotal step towards further investments into our supportive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for every member of the MGC community.

Last Friday, we held our first whole school assembly for the year. It was a joy to see our students and staff come together to celebrate our student leaders and share our goals. The assembly was not only a chance to connect but also a platform to look ahead at the upcoming swimming sports. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their athleticism, engage in healthy house competitions, and demonstrate the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Another highlight of our assembly was the presentation of the 2024 Student Leadership Team. Our new leaders have already shown exceptional dedication and enthusiasm for their roles, and I have no doubt they will serve our community well. The leadership team is eager to make a positive impact, representing the voices of their peers and contributing to the ongoing development of our college culture. Please join me in supporting and encouraging them as they embark on this important journey.

In closing, I want to express my gratitude to each of you for being a part of MGC. Together, we will make this year extraordinary.  Wishing you all a wonderful start to Term One.
