Positive Behaviours for Learning
At SFS, our PBL (Positive behaviours for learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect,
Responsibility and
Kindness
Here are some of our lucky PBL raffle winners from last Friday.
If your child brings home a PBL card, ask them to tell you why the teacher gave them the card and what school expectations they were demonstrating. Please sign the card and your child can return it to school and place it in the PBL raffle box in the learning space.
Seasons for Growth
Learning to live with change and loss. Everyone is affected by change and loss at some time in our lives.
At SFS we recognise that when changes occur such as separation, divorce, death, school transitions and natural disasters children may benefit from learning the skills to manage these changes effectively.
We are therefore offering an education program called Seasons for Growth which will commence next week with some Year 1/2 students. This program is facilitated in small groups of up to 7 participants and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need the practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss.
The program focuses on building skills such as how to manage feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and develops peer support networks. Participation in the program can promote improved self-esteem and self-confidence as well as giving children the opportunity to find their own voice amid change. If you think your child/ children would enjoy joining the Seasons for Growth program, we encourage you to talk to him/her about it.
We are pleased to be able to offer this successful program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those involved. If you require further information please contact rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
Lunch time Clubs
We have some lunch time clubs now up and running. On Monday every even week, Taryn is running a lunch time gardening club. This week the children had a look around the garden and had some fun looking at the chickens and collecting the chicken eggs. The children made a list of jobs that need to be done in the garden.
On odd weeks, Taryn will work with a group of Senior students who are called “Fire carriers” as part of the FIRE Carrier Project.
The aim of the FIRE (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) Carrier Project is to promote respect, fairness and inclusion for Aboriginal people. The FIRE Carrier Project promotes enculturation and reconciliation. To be a FIRE Carrier is to exercise an important leadership role in the school community. FIRE carriers are students and teachers that share a passion for learning about Aboriginal culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting reconciliation within and beyond the school community.
The other lunch time clubs we have started running are:
- Games club,
- Senior Choir,
- Senior Minni Vinnies,
- Praying the rosary,
- Art club
- Digital technology club
- Sport club.
These clubs provide opportunities for students to learn new skills as well as make friends and practice social skills.
If you have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
