Devotion

Today is Ash Wednesday, an important day that marks the beginning of the Lenten season. This is a special time for Christians and is a time of spiritual preparation leading up to the joyous celebration of Easter. Ash Wednesday holds special significance as we pause to remember our humanity and the need for God's grace in our lives.

In the Bible, we find comfort and guidance for our Lenten journey. In Psalm 51:10, we read, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." These words remind us of the opportunity for reflection that Lent presents.

Today in Chapel, Vicar Sean and Pastor Matt unpacked the importance of Ash Wednesday and made connection with the Kimochi feeling of Sorry. The Kotowaza for Sorry says ‘Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody gets a re-do’. The feeling of being sorry prompts us to acknowledge our mistakes and seek reconciliation with God. During Lent, we can support and encourage one another as we take time to connect with God, express love to those around us, and say sorry for mistakes made.

Today also happens to be Valentine's Day, a day when love is celebrated. While Valentine's Day often focuses on romantic love, it also serves as a reminder of the greatest love of all – the love of God for each of us. As we begin our Lenten journey, let us remember the gift of love of Jesus Christ, who gave his life for us out of love.

Heavenly Father, on this Ash Wednesday, we bring you our humble hearts, acknowledging our need for your forgiveness and grace. As we begin this season of Lent, grant us the strength to embrace this time of prayer and reflection, so that we may grow closer to you and experience the joy of your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Blessings to you this as we enter this Lenten Season.
