As the new leader of the Brigidine community, I am delighted to share that the College has had an exceptional start to the year. We have experienced many wonderful moments together as a community.
We have extended a warm welcome to our new Year 7 students and their families with a special Brigidine Welcome Mass. This was followed by a three-day camp and boot camp, helping the students to prepare for the year ahead. Additionally, we hosted welcome evenings for students in Years 7–11 and celebrated as a community with a Welcome Mass and the commissioning of my role as College Principal in a beautiful ceremony led by Fr. Pat Mara.
The celebration of St Brigid’s Day further reflected the spirit and enthusiasm of our Brigidine community, reinforcing the values and meaning of being part of a Brigidine school.
It was truly inspiring to see so many former students return for the High Achievers Assembly to celebrate their outstanding academic success. Their achievements serve as motivation for our current students, demonstrating the high standards of excellence at Brigidine.
During these initial weeks, I have come to appreciate the deep sense of respect and care that defines our College. The way the students support and acknowledge one another is heartwarming, and I have witnessed firsthand the dedication of our staff in fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Visiting classrooms has been a joy, and I am truly impressed by the enthusiasm for learning displayed by our students.
Sport is well underway, and I was privileged to attend the conference swimming carnival at Sydney Olympic Park on Tuesday night. I watched 13 outstanding swimmers compete in over 30 events, breaking an incredible 11 records—an extraordinary achievement. It was particularly inspiring to see our students support one another, embodying the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. The College was named Champion Girls' School and proudly secured the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior trophies—an outstanding accomplishment.
It has been a pleasure to meet so many families in my first weeks at Brigidine. The warmth and hospitality I had heard so much about have certainly been evident, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines our College.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome prospective students and families to our Open Day on Wednesday, 12th March. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience firsthand the exceptional education Brigidine offers, and we look forward to meeting many new faces on the day. We are currently enrolling for 2027.
As we enter the sacred season of Lent, beginning this Wednesday with Ash Wednesday, we are reminded of its significance as a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Lent, spanning 40 days leading up to Easter, invites us to reflect, make sacrifices, and extend kindness to others.
At Brigidine, we create meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the values of Lent. This year, in the spirit of the Jubilee, we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope, using prayer to bring encouragement to those in need. Our Lenten giving initiatives will focus on donating non-perishable food items, supporting local charities, and contributing to fundraising efforts for those less fortunate. Students are also encouraged to embrace personal sacrifices—whether by giving up a favorite treat or limiting screen time.
Pope Francis says “Holiness doesn’t mean doing extraordinary things, but doing things with love and faith."
We invite all families to join us in making Lent a meaningful time of reflection and action, as we grow together in faith, kindness, and community spirit.
In closing, I look forward to continuing to lead your daughters and this wonderful community, shaping young women who are strong, gentle, and active changemakers in the world. I am eager to work closely with parents and carers to ensure the best possible environment for your daughter to thrive and achieve her full potential.
Wishing you a blessed and reflective Lent.
