Kitchen Garden

The students in Year 3 and 4 have loved making zucchini slice, apple and cinnamon tarts and creative salads.  They harvested zucchinis, apples, herbs, corn, spinach, cucumbers and bell peppers from the garden and they also used fresh eggs from our chickens to create the delicious zucchini slice.

The garden has an abundance of produce ready to pick.  The students and teachers have worked hard to maintain the garden during their Kitchen Garden sessions.  If you haven’t walked down to the garden, please take the time to have a look.

                                                                 Here are the recipes!

If you're looking to have some fun, become a Kitchen Garden volunteer.  You'll have a laugh, sample food and even come home with a new recipe.   A current Working with Children Check is required.  Please leave your details at the office or contact me directly if you can help on any of the sessions below (inger.furong@education.vic.gov.au).

Food Tech

The Prep and Year One students have been busy exploring where food comes from.  They have identified and sorted foods that come from plants and animals. The students have sampled strawberries, bell peppers, tomatoes and apples from the garden.  They have spent time with the chickens and have loved collecting their eggs.

The Year Two students have explored different foods and grouped them according to the five food groups in the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.  They have discussed the importance of drinking water and foods that should only be eaten sometimes and in small amounts.

Last week the Year Two students harvested basil, oregano, thyme, bay leaves and tomatoes and made pasta sauce which was frozen.  This week they prepared the pasta, set the table and enjoyed eating it with their friends.  They classified the ingredients into the five food groups.
