Principal's Report

Tim Bernau | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

Welcome to the Week 4 Newsletter. As always there is plenty to update you on!

Community Participation

It was fantastic to see so many families come together for our Meet the Teacher/Twilight Sports event last week. These occasions provide a valuable opportunity for parents, students, and staff to connect in a relaxed and engaging environment. Watching families interact with teachers, cheer on their children, and share in the spirit of our school was a real highlight.

A huge thank you to all the students and families who joined us for the launch of the Active Paths initiative yesterday. The enthusiasm from our families was fantastic, and it was great to see students chatting and walking together while reinforcing the importance of road safety. The 'Stop, Look, Listen, Think' reminders placed at key crossings serve as valuable prompts, and we hope to see students continue to use these paths safely and confidently.

Calm Classrooms

The beginning of the year is an important time for establishing strong routines and expectations in the classroom and around the school. These structures help create a calm and focused learning environment where all students can thrive.

I’ve been so pleased to see consistency across the school—students entering classrooms with confidence, engaging in morning circle discussions, and maintaining excellent concentration throughout the learning blocks. A special mention to our Foundation students, who have settled in beautifully and are embracing school life with enthusiasm.

2025 Priorities

At last week’s School Council meeting, we presented the 2025 Annual Implementation Plan, outlining our key priorities for the year. I encourage you to take a moment to review the one-page summary linked below.

Our priorities are designed to build on the progress we’ve made in recent years, ensuring that every student experiences success. These areas align with departmental priorities, are backed by research, and are supported by new state-wide resources.

School Value in Focus: Relationships

Over the past month, I have been heartened by the kindness, care, and support shown by our students. Our new Foundation students have been warmly welcomed by their Year 6 buddies, and other new students have been embraced by their peers. It’s these small acts of inclusion and generosity that make our school such a welcoming place.

Watching students look out for one another and take the time to include and support their classmates is a testament to the values we uphold at Skye Primary.

Peacemakers

Last week, a group of Year 6 students took part in a 'Peacemakers' training course run by Mrs. Jackson. This initiative empowers senior students with the skills to use peer mediation and restorative practices to help resolve minor playground issues during playtimes. The Peacemakers have now stepped into their roles and will be rostered on in pairs during recess and lunch. Their willingness to support their peers and help create a positive, harmonious playground environment is commendable, and we are proud of their leadership.

Peacemakers Coordinator, Jac Jackson, will continue to oversee their training and coordination throughout 2025.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and commitment to our school. It’s been a great start to the year, and I look forward to another fantastic fortnight ahead!

Warm regards,

Timothy Bernau
