Principal Update

Melissa Mackenzie

We continue to have a very settled beginning to the year.

Thanks to you all for supporting us with the conversations about how much happens at school and how important learning is for us all.

To this end I want to let you know some more about an exciting program we are launching into next week.

The Stand Up Project is a program designed by Dr Zach Grieg and Sam Hoath. As you may have read in previous newsletters it is a program to embrace student voice, agency and leadership. At APS we highly value our students initiative, efforts and contributions to making our school an even better place and believe this program will further support our efforts. Jessie is our Student Health and Wellbeing Leader and as such she will be leading this program.

There is a parent session on Wednesday 5 March which I highly encourage you to attend.

Welcome to APS Prep Parent Night

This annual event run by our current Year 1 parents is a nice way to join the APS community. On Wednesday 26 February our Prep parents will be welcomed to drinks and nibbles in the staff centre. More information will be coming for these parents. Thanks in advance to the Year 1 parents organizing this event.

Swimming Carnival

Today our Year 3-6 students headed to Collingwood Pool for our annual swimming carnival. The students were full of excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. The weather is warmer than we’d like but we are well prepared to protect students from direct sun and keep them hydrated. Many parents have volunteered to help and we thank them for their efforts. Traditionally we will have a large group of students who make it to the next level being the regional swimming competition. A few years ago we only took the swimmers to complete at the pool and the non-swimmers stayed at school. In our quest to be all inclusive we now include all students and offer shallow pool activities for those students who cannot yet swim 50m or who are not wanting to compete. We are really proud of our students who once again show us that if we put the supports in place they will be brave and face their challenges.

Reminder- Only the Yarralea St main gate will be open during the school day. The other gates are locked after 9am. If arriving late please come into the office with your child to sign in. The gates will be unlocked at 3:15 each afternoon. If you need to enter the school during the day please use the main entrance and come to the front foyer.

Have a lovely week

Kind Regards

Melissa Mackenzie
