Celebrating Our 2025 School and House Captains

At last Friday’s assembly, we proudly presented our 2025 School and House Captains with their official badges. This badge is a symbol of the trust and respect they have earned from both their peers and teachers, as well as their commitment to upholding our school's values.

We extend our congratulations to our newly appointed School Captains: Dhyey D, Lauren KF, Xavier R, and Ella G.

A Splashing Success at the Swimming Carnival

Last Wednesday, our annual House Swimming Carnival took place at Oakleigh Recreation Centre under perfect weather conditions. The day was expertly organised, ensuring that all students had the chance to participate—whether by competing in races or enjoying fun water games in the smaller pool.

A huge thank you to our incredible PE teacher, Mr Pullar, for his outstanding planning and preparation, which made the event run so smoothly. We also appreciate the dedication of our teachers who took on key roles, from making announcements and scoring, to supervising and ensuring everything flowed seamlessly.

As for our students: they made us proud. Throughout the day, they demonstrated respect and responsibility as they cheered each other on or organised games among themselves while waiting for events.

Building a Positive Learning Environment

Across the school, students are actively engaged in our Learning to Learn program: a unit designed to foster strong classroom connections and teamwork. Through group tasks, students learn about different team roles, develop problem-solving skills, and explore ways to work more effectively together.

Each class collaboratively establishes the kind of learning environment that best supports them, setting expectations for positive and productive behaviour. These discussions are then captured in a Class Essential Agreement, which outlines how the class prefers to be acknowledged for their efforts and reinforces our school's approach to managing behaviour.

This year, the Education Department has introduced eight essential positive classroom management strategies, and our Learning to Learn program covers the first four:✔ Establishing classroom expectations and rules✔ Implementing routines and procedures✔ Encouraging positive behaviour✔ Addressing inappropriate behaviour

At our school, we continue to emphasize courtesy, manners, and our core values—Respect, Resilience, Responsibility, and Relationships. We are proud to see our students embracing these values and making an excellent start to the year!

Join Our School Council!

We currently have six vacancies for school community members on our School Council. Serving on the council is a two-year commitment, with half of the members being new each year. This structure ensures that incoming members can learn from those in their second year, creating a smooth transition and continuity in leadership.

A Compass post will be sent out soon with details about the role and nomination process. Being part of the School Council is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in school improvement decisions and gain a deeper understanding of how our school operates. We encourage interested community members to consider this rewarding role!

Mobile Phone & Personal Device Policy

Our students demonstrate a strong commitment to responsibility and following school guidelines, including those related to technology use. As part of this, students are reminded to turn off notifications on their iPads, phones, and smartwatches during the school day. To minimise disruptions, we kindly ask that parents contact the school office if they need to pass on a message, rather than texting or calling their child directly.

The Acceptable Use of ICT Agreement outlines our approach to teaching ethical technology use and managing any issues that arise. While most agreements have been returned, we encourage families to discuss these guidelines at home and complete the agreement and return the form to school if you haven’t already done so. Thank you for supporting safe and responsible technology use at school!

Photo & Recording Permissions

As part of our privacy policy, parents have been asked to complete a paper form regarding permission for student photos and videos.

External Use: Photos and videos that may be seen by the public, such as on billboards, advertising pamphlets, the school website, or the internet. Even if you provide consent on the form, we will always contact you directly via phone or email before using your child’s photo for external purposes.
Internal Use: Photos and videos used within our school community, visible only to enrolled families. This includes production videos, Class Dojo posts, assemblies, and other school events.

🔹 Important Reminder: Parents and carers must obtain permission before sharing any photos containing other children on the internet or social media. Thank you for respecting our privacy guidelines and helping keep our school community safe.

School Picnic- save the date: Thursday 20 February

The annual school picnic will be held on the oval on Thursday 20 February (5:30 – 7:30pm).

Families bring along picnic rugs or chairs and a picnic dinner for the family.

The picnic is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and expand your friendship group as you mingle with other members of the school community. Miss Nugent and our performing arts students will kick off the evening with a performance for your enjoyment.

Also, back by popular demand, our school council Fundraising committee will be selling ice creams and drinks from the canteen.

Let’s hope we are blessed with the wonderful weather we enjoyed last year.

Traffic Safety Reminder

School drop-off and pick-up times can be busy and hectic, making it important for everyone to prioritise road safety. We kindly ask all parents and carers to follow road and parking rules to ensure the safety of our students and to be considerate of our neighbours.

This year, we encourage everyone—including those who may not have always followed the rules—to be more mindful of the impact their actions have on others. Setting a positive example for our students is key to creating a safer school environment.

The Glen Eira Council has created a short 2.5-minute video that explains parking signs, school crossings, and traffic safety around schools. We encourage families to watch it together and discuss the importance of road safety.
