Principal's Message

Our children are our future...

Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 2. The staff sends a warm welcome to all families as they return after the Easter break. Happy Easter to those who celebrate the occasion. We hope your time with family has been fulfilling and that you are all happy and healthy.

It is a shortened week as we have our usual first day Curriculum Day on Tuesday (after the Easter Monday public holiday). OSHClub will be operating on Tuesday, but there are no classes for students.

Classes return for students on Wednesday, April 23 at 9am.

Remember also that the ANZAC Day public holiday falls on Friday, April 25. Following that, the first full week of school for students will be on Monday, April 28.

All school staff will be on deck on Tuesday this week undertaking professional development connected to the English/Literacy Curriculum. We use these days as opportunities to hone our craft together so that we can be the best professionals possible for your children. Previously, you have read in these pages that SMPS is a high-achieving school with results that are the envy of many. Whilst this is true, we are always looking to improve and take the next step in our development as an organisation. The nature of high-performing environments is that they don't rest on their laurels - and we are no different. Our goal is to stay humble and hardworking so your children can reach their potential.

Terms 2 and 3 are always exciting. The routines we have set up in all classes in Term 1 start to yield results as the children and teachers hit a rhythm that sustains them through the colder months. It is actually easier to concentrate inside when it is cooler outside as it feels like a better alternative to be inside and focussing on learning than outside playing in the sunshine.

I look forward to seeing the faces of your children again as they make their way through the front door next Wednesday. They are the source of eternal optimism and make life so much richer for adults. I also look forward to seeing your smiling faces as you support your school to be its best. Your sunny nature makes a huge difference to the vibes inside the place.

Kirrip Park Closed for 6 Weeks

Kirrip Park is closed for approximately 6 weeks for returfing. We are pleased that the park is being looked after and will work creatively to ensure that students have enough space and time to play outside where possible. It may be a challenge for a while as there is restricted space for our children to play on - but we will face the challenge and get through it as we always do.

Safety Message

There is an important safety message on the Wellbeing Page in this edition. We received a report on the last day of Term 1 that a student had been hurt in the yard after everyone was dismissed and the yard was unattended by staff (as the duty time had lapsed). Please read the message carefully and absolutely make sure that you are actively supervising your child post 3:40pm. Staff are simply not there after this time and cannot reasonably be expected to supervise indefinitely. The onus is on the parents each night to either take their children safely home or stay around and actively supervise until 4:25pm when it is expected that the forecourt is vacated for the night (so we can lock up). Please be vigilant.
