From the School Nurse

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

And the 2025 school year has started and both students and teachers have already started the count down to term holidays, while parents and caregivers let out a sigh of relief that holidays are over 😊.

  • It’s already a busy start to the year with preparation for Naplan, tryouts for Interschool sports and yes SACs have already started for our senior years.
  • Returning to school, or starting a new school, can be quite stressful for both students and caregivers, so below we have some ideas on how to manage stress.

ACTION PLANS FOR 2025 NEEDED!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again…

  • Students who have a medical condition are required to provide the school with updated Action Plans from their Gp or Specialist and any medications they may require to treat their condition.
  • In line with the Department of Education guidelines, our College takes its responsibilities to students with medical conditions very seriously.
  • The Action Plan outlines the Victorian Schools Policy for Emergency treatment of medical conditions that must be followed in all Victorian Government Schools.
  • It is the parents/caregiver responsibility to provide these plans and medications to the school on the first day back of the school year.
  • Please help us to responsibly care for your child while at school by completing and returning an Action Management Plan and new medication as soon as possible to myself, Megan Scott - School Nurse in the First Aid Room, or to the Main Administration Office.

STRESS MANAGEMENT IDEAS

  • Support students to stay active – walking, cycling, yoga or team sports
  • Encourage Positive self-talk – encourage self-acceptance and build up their confidence
  • Learn relaxation techniques together- Breathing techniques, ASMR, meditation
  • Help them nourish their brains- what we eat affects our mood, encourage well balanced diet
  • Encourage them to connect with others, but limit social media use – especially if it is adding to their stress- time with friends and social gatherings can help relieve feeling overwhelmed
  • Prioritise good sleeping habits- sleep is vital for wellbeing, maintain a regular sleep routine, aim for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep
  • Talk to them about expectations- check in with them, allow them to express their hopes and fears, reassure them they are unconditionally loved and accepted.
