Exploring Places with Atlases in Grade 3A

This term, Grade 3A has been embarking on an exciting Inquiry unit about "Places." Through hands-on exploration, students have been developing their research skills by using atlases to investigate different locations around the world.

Students have been learning how to read maps, interpret symbols, and locate countries, cities, and landmarks. They have also been discovering fascinating facts about various places, including their climates, cultures, and geographical features. This engaging unit encourages curiosity and helps build essential research skills that will benefit them in future learning.

SPORT

EY PE – Students from Prep to Year 4 have begun 2025 with Team Building strategies, as well as a Values Based Approach to Physical Education.  This has been developing the personal and social skills of our students in a variety of games and activities in partners, small and large groups.  We have also introduced the “ARE YOU READY FOR PE?” Check in that has allowed students to leave their worries at the door and engage in PE and move forward from what’s going on elsewhere.  Prep students have been introduced to the PE learning spaces, routines and equipment in their first few weeks.  They are learning to “STOP, LOOK & LISTEN,” as well as, taking turns, sharing equipment and understanding Personal Success in every lesson.  The Early Years PE Staff are enjoying the energetic and enthusiastic start to 2025 and hope to see some great efforts and results from students for the remainder of Term 1.

Our Year 12 Food Technology students showcased their culinary skills this week by preparing a flavorful pasta salad paired with mouth-watering sticky chicken wings. Through this hands-on cooking experience, they refined their skills in balancing flavors, mastering cooking techniques, and ensuring proper food safety and hygiene.

The pasta salad was a vibrant combination of fresh ingredients, while the sticky chicken wings were cooked to perfection with a delicious glaze. This activity not only allowed students to experiment with textures and flavors but also reinforced the importance of meal planning and presentation.

Year 09 Geography Assessment Activity - Soil Nutrition

Our Year 9 students have been getting their hands dirty—literally! As part of their science studies, they have been given a punnet of soil along with native seeds to investigate how nutrient levels impact plant growth. The students compared the nutrient capabilities of their soil samples found in the central Australian desert.

This hands-on experiment allowed students to explore real-world environmental factors that affect plant life. By monitoring seed germination, growth rates, and overall plant health, they gained valuable insights into how soil quality influences ecosystems.

Through this engaging project, our students are developed critical thinking skills, scientific inquiry, and a deeper appreciation for Australia’s diverse landscapes.

Philosophy club 2025

Philosophy club kicked off with a bang this week, welcoming over 20 attendees for its first session back since the break. Eager students from year 7 to 12 worked collaboratively on an ‘evil-o-meter’, debating fun food related hypotheticals and ranking them based on their moral implications.

The club meets every Friday lunchtime in ACED 2 and is open to all students. We look forward to more engaging sessions throughout the year, led by enthusiastic students, Mr. Creaven, and potentially some guest teachers. It’s a lively and bright start to 2025, setting the club up for an exciting year ahead!
