Careers and Pathways

Program Leader: Careers and Pathways - Sarah Gurney

Welcome back for 2025!

I know this is going to be a great year for our students and their pathway plans. We have some very exciting activities, excursions and programs in place already that I know our students are really going to enjoy.

Work experience

Over the summer holidays, I read on article on ABC News around career education programs in schools across Australia and how they vary. This article discussed different aspirations of students across the country but how some are unaware of where to even start on their pathway journeys or access this information at school.

One of my biggest takeaways from the article was that schools or organisations that help students facilitate on-site work experiences allow these students to have a greater transition into employment and the trend shows they will be in employment for a longer period of time.

I want to remind all Year 10, 11 and 12 students that they can access our work experience program at the college throughout their senior years to help them better immerse themselves in the world of work.

All Year 10s have been visited to hear about our work experience program and families have been notified this will be taking place in Week 2B and 3A of Term 2 – please come and see me if you have any questions about this. This first round of work experience for Year 10s is a memorable and exciting time they will really enjoy!

Careers bookings

Students are reminded they can book in to see me via the link on SEQTA notices to discuss all things careers and pathways. This can range from resume writing to university advice to chatting about work experience – my door is always open!

Keep an eye on the bulletin each week for careers updates from the College, as I mentioned before, we have a lot happening this year!
