Learning Highlights

First day of Term 1
Welcome back for 2025!
It was wonderful to celebrate the return of all students to MacKillop this year. With joyful reunions and tales of how the summer holidays were spent, the College grounds were certainly a buzz this morning.
We can't wait to see what the rest of the Term holds!
Building Works
Prior to our students, returning we welcomed back all staff to the College during the holidays. This was a wonderful opportunity for all staff to come together to reconnect, refocus and plan for the upcoming school year.
The business team was busy working hard over the holidays to provide some updates to the College grounds. A big thank you to our maintenance team for their efforts in completing these additions.
- Installation of an automatic door at the entrance to the Mary Building (formerly Tenison Block)
- Additional lockers installed in the Mary Building and outside Learning Enhancement
- New signage clearly indicates the different House areas.
- Upgrades to sporting facilities, including resurfacing of courts, revamping of cricket nets, and installation of dual AFL and soccer goals (coming soon)
Developing as the best athletes we can be!
Our Year 10 Athlete Development class recently undertook a series of fitness testing to test their strength, speed, agility and reach.
As the students continue to learn and develop as athletes throughout the year, they will repeat this testing at the end of the year to see what has changed.
Pickleball stars in the making!
Our Year 8 HPE class recently enjoyed picking up a new skill as they tried their hand (or paddle) at pickleball.
Not a bad way to spend a morning in the sun!
Welcome to the School of Rock!
Rehearsals are underway for MacKillop Catholic College's upcoming production of the School of Rock.
Students are busy learning their lines and perfecting their air guitar as they prepare to 'stick it to the man' and take to the stage later in the year.
Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting production!
Year 11/12 Chemistry
Students explored the properties of chemical reactions by making qualitative observations such as colour changes, gas production, and precipitate formation.
Through experimentation, they analysed how different substances interact and transform.
Alumni Success
MacKillop's own T20 Big Bash Grand Final winner!
A big congratulations to Riley Meredith (MacKillop alumnus 2012) on his stellar performance taking three wickets to help the Hobart Hurricanes defeat the Sydney Thunder to win the T20 Big Bash League.
What an exciting achievement that can inspire our current students to accomplish their own sporting goals.
Love is in the air
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Shall we take a peek at the beautiful decorations in the Rice Resource Centre at the moment?
With no better way to celebrate all things Valentine's Day than with a good book, students can certainly feel the love as they search for their next read.
Skills in Sport Science
Our Year 11/12 Sport Science class has enjoyed putting their juggling skills to the test as they learned about the different types of motor skills with Miss Negri.
Screen stars of the future!
This week we welcomed a guest speaker from Cooper Screen Academy to our Year 9 Drama class.
Putting the students to the test as they learned how to nail an audition self-tape. With the camera pointed at them, students were taught how to enter and exit a self-tape, capture the director's attention, what the term playing age means, and the art of subtle acting through expression.
What an exciting opportunity for our future budding actors!
