Spotlight on – The Parents' Association

Trivia Night, All School Breakfast, School Disco, Book Exchange, Mothers Day Stall, F.r.o.G’s, Paint and Sip, Fathers and Special Persons Day Stall, Chocolate Drive, Persian Brunch etc - thank you PA for all your work! ****

What a great team of parents we have on the Mullum Parents' Association!  It has been such a pleasure to be on the Executive Committee and to see how invested the PA members are in organising events to support our students, tend to the school garden, create social events for parents and raise money for our school.  It has been wonderful seeing new event ideas of the following PA members come to fruition.  Their planning and co-ordinating volunteers ensured the events ran smoothly and successfully.

Caitlin - School Disco, Emily - The All School Breakfast,

Annie & Erin and led by Deanne Lawn -  Paint and Sip,

Caitlin – Chocolate Drive,

Annie – Book Exchange,

Ariane - F.r.o.G’s, and later this month,

Priscilla - Persian Brunch catered by Mullum mums from our Persian community

The Parents' Association were entrusted with the co-ordinating of the following annual events – Mother's Day Stall, Father's and Special Person's Day Stall, fundraising at the Family Christmas Picnic and Lilydale end of year picnic. Thank you to Bruce and Bao for running the Parent's Days stalls and to Annie and Erin for their upcoming fundraising at the family picnic.  I will be co-ordinating the volunteers for the Lilydale Picnic with parent volunteer Shana directing on the day.

2025 saw the first year that a sub-committee of the Parents' Association organised the Trivia Night.  For the school to trust us by handing the running of such a major event that had been organised so well by many teachers over the decades was not lost on us.  With Tim and Digger leading two planning meetings, writing the questions, emceeing and hosting the evening plus the work that was achieved through several months of Whatsapp messages, emails, contacting businesses for donations and meetings between Pei, Bao, Bruce and myself, we feel confident as a committee that we delivered an event that was fun and successful.

There are many of you in the school community that may want to join the PA but are unsure of how much volunteering you will have to do.

I have led an opt-in model of member involvement, nothing is assumed and members time volunteering is not taken for granted.

You also may want to join but may not have had any experience in a meeting.  Our meetings, though sticking to an agenda and results orientated, have a casual feel which lends to a a feeling that all points of view are welcome in our discussions.

Our AGM will be 7pm, Wednesday 19th November.  More details will be sent home with students next week.

Before I end, I would like to acknowledge the work of the Executive Committee, Bruce Rohde (Treasurer) and Caitlin Cameron (Secretary) who have ticked all the boxes and more of what their position entailed. A thank you to Erin Simkin who was our first Secretary. A thank you to Marie who attended our meetings as the school staff representative and gave us information that was most helpful in guiding our discussions. Thank you Bao Nguyen who is the PA Rep on the School Council where she serves as Vice President.

I have very much enjoyed my role as President this year and look forward to volunteering on the PA in 2026 in any role needed.

Thanking you all
