Round the classes

Indonesian: Ibu Susan

In Indonesian the year 4/5 and year 5/6 classes have been super busy completing their stories - an Indonesian version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Sallie's class has also been making wayang kulit shadow puppets ready to use with our puppet screen.

Stephen's class is practising a special Indonesian folktale ready to perform at the end of year concert. They have also investigated the strange creatures called tarsiers that live in Borneo.

The JP classes have been revising the key questions Siapa nama kamu? (What is your name?) and Apa kabar? (How are you?) with various stories, games and craft activities.

Art: Mrs Tume

The Junior Primary discovered using primary colours to make secondary colours using acrylic paints and how special events like ‘Remembrance Day’ can be represented through the visual arts that they make. The year 2/3 class are exploring the artist Gustav Klimt and recreating their own versions of ‘The Tree of Life.’ The year 3/ 4 class are experimenting with creating texture in their artworks through bringing animal and machine together in one picture and considering the presentation of artworks through making their own borders. The Upper Primary classes are busy researching their chosen artists and recreating a piece of artwork from that artist or creating their own inspired artworks from their research.

PE: Troy

This term in Physical Education, students have commenced their focus on teeball. Our younger students have been developing striking, fielding, throwing, catching, and running skills by participating in a range of skill-based stations, which they rotate through during lessons.

For our older classes, the emphasis has been on learning the rules and fundamental skills of teeball. These students are working towards applying their knowledge and skills in modified games as we approach the end of the year.

Additionally, our Year 5/6 class recently concluded their volleyball unit with a grand final on Friday of Week 4. The match was a thrilling contest between the Midnight Monkeys and the Feisty Flamingos. After five closely contested sets, the Midnight Monkeys emerged victorious, winning the final set 14–12.

Well done to all students for their enthusiasm and active participation throughout our PE program.

Gardening: Jo

Students in Kelly's class have started a nature journal. They've had some time to use their senses to observe, listen, smell, taste and touch. To think about how we use our senses in the garden- to observe the movement of insects, check plant health, admire the flowers, smell the different herbs and feel the soil moisture to name a few.

Green waste has been disposed of in the compost bins and we've discussed what does and does not go into a green waste bin.

Some spring seeds have been planted and we are hoping they germinate before we finish school.
