🏫 Facilities and Maintenance Works
We’re excited to share that over the upcoming school holidays; a number of important facility improvements will take place at Kilberry Primary School. These upgrades continue our commitment to providing safe, comfortable, and inspiring learning spaces for our students.
Scheduled works include:
- Installation of new carpet in classrooms
- Arrival of new classroom furniture – chairs and desks for students
- New blinds throughout classrooms
- Updated shade sails in outdoor play areas
Additionally, the Gallery portable will be removed by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) over the break. This decision has been made due to the condition and over-capacity of our current buildings. The work will be managed and carried out by the department.
During the last school holidays and late in Term 3, we also completed:
- The installation of new school gates
- Stage 2 of our school signage project
We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from families about these improvements — thank you! Your encouragement means a great deal to our staff and helps us continue to build a school environment we can all be proud of.
📚 Teaching and Learning
Our Year 1/2 students have recently begun novel studies using the Ochre framework, which is an exciting development for our literacy program. This now means we have a consistent approach to literacy teaching across Years 1–6, ensuring continuity and strong progression in reading and writing across the school.
This term, we are also undertaking a range of assessments — including DAL Online and CATs (Common Assessment Tasks) — to measure student growth and achievement. These assessments help teachers identify progress and plan for each child’s ongoing learning.
Please ensure students attend school every day, as consistent attendance is vital for learning and participation in these important assessments.
✏️ Year 3–6 Learning Focus
Our Year 3–6 students are continuing with their novel studies and targeted sentence-level writing work. These activities are deepening students’ comprehension and writing skills, supporting their growth as confident, capable communicators.
👩‍🏫 Intervention and Student Support
We are thrilled to welcome Lucy O’Flaherty to our team. Lucy brings extensive experience in intervention programs and will play a key role in supporting students and teachers across the school.
We have also expanded our intervention initiatives this term, ensuring that every student has access to targeted support that meets their individual learning needs.
💚 Wellbeing and School Culture
Our Wellbeing Space continues to support students in developing positive behaviours and emotional awareness. This term, our focus is on respectfully entering and exiting classrooms, reinforcing our culture of respect and responsibility.
We’re proud to offer a range of wellbeing programs, including:
- 🌿 Peaceful Kids
- 💬 Social and Emotional Learning
- 🎨 Art Therapy
These programs foster resilience, confidence, and emotional wellbeing for all students.
👥 Recruitment and Future Planning
We are currently in the process of recruiting staff for 2026. This ongoing process ensures we continue to build a strong team of dedicated, high-quality educators who share Kilberry’s commitment to student success and wellbeing.
đź“…Â Communication and Upcoming Events
Please continue to:
- Check Compass regularly — this is our main communication platform for families
- Refer to the Term 4 Calendar for important dates
There are many excursions and events scheduled for the coming weeks, and we encourage families to stay up to date with all school information.
🌟 Thank You
As we approach the end of the year, I would like to thank our students, staff, and families for your continued effort, positivity, and support.
The shared commitment to high expectations across our community is making a remarkable impact on student wellbeing, learning, and behaviour. This success is reflected in our recent School Performance Report, where Kilberry achieved a HIGH rating — an outstanding achievement that highlights the dedication and teamwork of our entire school community.
Together, we continue to make Kilberry a place where every student can learn, grow, and succeed.

Warm regards,
