Assistant Principal's Report

Term 4 is ticking along and it has been a busy few weeks for our staff, students and families!
Transition
Last week our 2026 Foundation students had their first Transition session. They participated in lots of fun activities in the Foundation classrooms like building, drawing and puzzles and met lots of new friends. Families also attended an information session with Mr Den Elzen and Mrs Goldenberg about what to expect at Whitehorse Primary school in their first year of school and beyond. We are so excited for our newest students to begin their learning journey with us next year!
Whole school transition also began for students in Prep to Year 5 with students participating in activities with their 2026 cohort. While class teachers and classroom spaces are not yet finalised, this was a great opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with new teachers and make connections with a wider range of peers. Our transition program helps students adjust to new environments, build a sense of belonging and aims to decrease feelings of worry or anxiety. This leads to a positive impact on students’ wellbeing and learning.
Division Volleyball
On Wednesday 22 October, I was lucky enough to support the Year 6 Girls Volleyball Team at Division level. The girls played really well to win two out of three games and place 2nd overall. What I was most proud of was the team work, positive attitudes and encouragement shown by our students even when the scores were not going their way. They showed great persistence coming back from two first set losses in each of the games they won and were proud of making it so far in the competition. Well done girls, you played so well!
Congratulations on an amazing effort - Evie, Lily, Mia, Morgan, Tahlia and Alice.
I am mindful
Last week, Year 5/6 students who participated in the I am Mindful program met with me to reflect and review the skills and strategies they learnt to look after their mental health. Their favourite tools were using paced breathing, kinetic sand, word searches and essential oils to help them when they were experiencing ‘big feelings’ in scenarios such as sibling arguments, worries about transitioning to high school, nerves around school assessments etc. Some students in this group are keen to continue to practise using these strategies and will now teach their peers what they learnt in the program in future sessions with Mrs Goldenberg.
Have a wonderful week!
