Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had an eventful fortnight at Whitehorse Primary School. Thank you to our Whitehorse Family Network for their support in coordinating the Halloween disco which was well attended by students from Kinder through to Grade 6. It was great to see so many families join us for another community focused event.
We also wrapped up the fundraising from the Colour Run with a sliming of the Principal! Thank you to the students and families who have supported these fundraising efforts which have helped us in the installation of a new junior basketball hoop which is already a hit amongst our students!
World Teachers’ Day
Last Friday we celebrated World Teacher’s Day, recognising our amazing staff who support, inspire and empower our students every day at Whitehorse. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of teachers and education support staff who are hard-working and happy! We thank them for their excellent contributions to our school!
Student Leadership 2026
Our Grade 5 students are working through the process of applying for leadership roles, including school captain. We acknowledge the students for displaying confidence and resilience throughout this process. We look forward to hearing their speeches in the coming weeks, highlighting their achievements, experiences, and pride they have within our school community.
The process for all student leadership positions is underway and the student leadership roles will be announced towards the end of the school year. Good luck and thank you to the Grade 5/6 teachers in supporting the students throughout this process.
Planning for 2026
We are currently planning staffing and classes for 2026. Please let us know if you are planning a move and will not be attending Whitehorse PS next year so that we are able to make the best plans possible with accurate numbers.
In Term 4, we commence the process of organising students into classes for 2026. Students will be asked to name between 3 to 5 students who they work well with and empower each other’s learning. Teachers use this, along with their knowledge of students’ academic, social and emotional skills, to place students into class groupings that they believe will maximise learning for all. School is a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to work with diverse people, be open minded, view things from multiple perspectives and tolerate differences. Students are encouraged to problem-solve to resolve conflicts and find solutions to meet the needs of the group.
2026 Day/Year 7 Statewide Transition Day
On Tuesday 9th of December students will spend the day with their teacher for 2026 and their new class. This day is also the day that our Grade 6 students attending government secondary schools will attend their transition/orientation day. Families will be notified via Compass the afternoon prior, with information on their child’s teacher and classroom for 2026.
Born to Soar Information night
On Wednesday 12th November we will be hosting an information night for Born to Soar for 2026. Please see the below information for interested families.
Kind regards,
Andrew Den Elzen - Principal
