Supporting Teens During Study Stress

With exams underway, it’s completely normal for students to be feeling a little more pressure than usual. Everyone experiences study stress differently — for some, it can be motivating, while for others it may feel overwhelming with the workload and deadlines.

The good news is that managing stress is a skill — and it’s something you can build and strengthen over time.

Tips for Students

Break it down:  Large tasks can seem impossible until you divide them into smaller, more manageable steps. Setting daily or weekly goals can make study time feel more achievable and less daunting.

Keep a routine:  Maintaining regular sleep, study, and break times helps your mind stay focused and reduces the risk of burnout.

Get moving:  Even a quick walk, stretch, or shooting a few basketball hoops can release tension and help you refocus.

Reach out:  Talking to a friend, teacher, or a member of the Wellbeing Team can really help. Remember — you’re not alone in feeling stressed!

For Parents and Carers

Your support plays a huge role. Parental support is essential during busy study periods. Encourage your teen to take short breaks, ensure they’re eating nutritious meals, and help them prioritise good sleep and rest. Remind them that effort is more important than perfection. Sometimes the most helpful thing is simply listening and reassuring them that they’re doing their best.

Remember

Feeling stressed is a normal part of facing challenges — it means you care about what you’re working toward. But if stress starts to feel too heavy, please reach out. The Wellbeing Team is here to provide support, practical strategies, and a listening ear.
