What a busy and exciting term we have just had!!

In the playground the students are playing basketball copying the moves of their NBA favourites and emulating the plays of their soccer heroes as we immerse ourselves in the FIFA World Cup. There is a flurry of balls and action whizzing around on the courts and oval.

Performing Arts opportunity with a huge playlist at Big Night Out in May wowed the audience. Thank you to P&C, Mr L.K and Miss Fitzgerald and all student performers.

Sporting opportunity with Boys and Girls Volleyball teams playing in many competitions. Congratulations to these students for the excellent development pathway they are demonstrating for the whole school community to see. Your commitment to the team and training has been outstanding and you all deserve the success your teams are experiencing. Great job Mr Yovanis.

Personal Development and Leadership opportunity with Student Representative Council collaborating together presenting several proposals for the school.

Of course all of this is done around our students immersing themselves in lessons and learning opportunities. Encourage your child to get involved in the many extra curricula opportunities which take place in our school everyday.

And all of this culminates in Semester 1 academic reports being issued to students and families at the end of the term. If you have any questions about your child’s report please call the school to speak to the teacher or Head Teacher of the subject.

The commencement of Homework club on Tuesday afternoons in the Library.  Music club, Art club, Breakfast club on Monday mornings. 

NSW DoE Roundtable - Online Learning

Earlier this term, the school was invited by ABC News and the Department of Education to be involved in interviews and their news article as part of the launch of Aurora College delivering education online to city students. On Friday 19 June Matai in Year 10 and myself were invited to participate in a Roundtable discussion involving many sectors of NSW DoE to the key issues of online learning. I want to share that Matai was an excellent representative of our school providing key insight and responses the issues discussed with his group.

We look forward to the opportunities Auroura College may be able to provide our senior students and for further opportunities which may come the way of Matai and all our students with corporate personnel of NSW DoE.

What a wonderful and exciting term this has been. 

Events 

This term has been marked by significant events, including the ANZAC Day march with Mascot RSL Sub-Branch, ANZAC Day assembly, Sports Carnivals, Year 11 Study Elevate Program, Sporting Knockouts, Reconciliation Assembly, Big Night Out, ongoing P&C commitment and support, Careers expos, HSC Study Days, Subject Selection Evening, Quest HPGE Writing Workshop, across-KLA programs and excursions, and, most importantly, quality teaching and learning across all faculties. In our final week, we will have a Year 11 camp, as well as NAIDOC assembly and activities.

Primary School Programs

 I am very much looking forward to next term and continuing to develop our programs for our local primary schools. STEAM, as part of the HPGE program, will run early next term, and we have confirmed dates with all our local feeder primary schools for Year 4 and Year 5 taster lessons. We can’t wait to work with you and your teachers and look forward to seeing you next term.

Reminder: Mobile Phone Technology Process 

J J Cahill Memorial High School has implemented a Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan aligned with the NSW Department of Education’s policy to enhance student focus, wellbeing, and social interaction. Under the plan, all students must keep their mobile phones off and stored away throughout the school day, including recess and lunch, reducing distractions and supporting a safe learning environment. Please remind students that if phones are used on site, they will be asked to hand them into the office. If a phone is not handed in, further interventions will be applied through a three-step process, which students and parents are aware of; please contact me if you have any questions. Exemptions can be granted for students with specific medical, wellbeing, or learning needs upon application to the principal. For urgent communication during the school day, parents and carers are encouraged to contact the school office on (02) 9669 5118, where messages can be relayed to students to avoid disrupting their learning.
