Celebrating the Feast of St Peter – A Model of Faith, Courage and Love

As we approach the end of Term, we also move towards an important moment in the life of our college, the Feast Day of St Peter the Apostle (Monday 29 June). This celebration is shared with another great missionary of the Church, St Paul, whose partnership in spreading the message of Christ continues to inspire the Catholic world.

At St Peter’s College, we place particular significance on the life and witness of our patron, St Peter. His story is one that resonates deeply with us because it is not a story of perfection, but one of faith, growth, courage and humility.

Peter was the first of the apostles called by Jesus, leaving behind his life as a fisherman to follow a path filled with uncertainty and risk. He showed extraordinary courage, stepping out of the boat to walk on water, yet also experienced moments of doubt, losing faith and beginning to sink. He boldly proclaimed Jesus as the Son of the living God, yet later, out of fear, denied even knowing Him before the crucifixion.

Despite these failures, Peter’s story did not end there. Through the power of the Resurrection, he found renewed courage and conviction. He went on to preach to all people, to heal the sick, and to lead the early Church with strength and purpose. Ultimately, he gave his life as a martyr, remaining steadfast in his faith and commitment to God.

Peter reminds us that faith is not about getting everything right, but about continuing to trust, to step forward, and to grow. He is a powerful example for our students and our community, encouraging us to be courageous in our learning, to embrace new opportunities in co-curricular life, and to show compassion and care to those around us. As a college, we are called to imitate the love Peter showed, reflecting our annual theme: “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Cor. 16:14).

Our Feast of St Peter is also a time to give thanks for the people who shape the life of our college each day.

We begin our celebrations with the St Peter’s Dinner on Friday evening, 19 June, where we acknowledge and honour staff who have given significant years of service to our community.

Looking Ahead: St Peter’s Day Celebrations

We look forward to continuing our celebrations next Tuesday 23 June, with our St Peter’s Day across both campuses.

The day will begin with a Mass, giving us the opportunity to come together in prayer and thanksgiving. This will be followed by a range of fun activities, food stalls, and our much-anticipated St Peter’s Got Talent showcase at each campus. This is an opportunity for students to share their gifts and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our College.

It promises to be a joyful and engaging day for all.
