Around the College

We love to celebrate our students' achievements - if your student has won something, appeared in something, competed in something, or is proud of achieving something outside of school, send photos and information to their Homeroom teacher for inclusion in our Newsletter.
VCE Chemistry Students Inspire Future Scientists
Our VCE Chemistry students recently travelled to St Joseph’s Primary School in Wonthaggi to share their passion for science with the Year 6 students through a series of exciting and interactive chemical science experiments.
The day provided an opportunity for our students to step into the role of educators, designing and delivering demonstrations that showcased the fascinating world of chemistry. From colourful reactions to hands-on investigations, the Year 6 students were captivated by the experiments and eagerly engaged with the scientific concepts being explored.
What stood out most was the professionalism, confidence, and maturity displayed by our VCE Chemistry students. They took full ownership of the experience, leading presentations, answering questions, and guiding activities with a level of poise well beyond their years. Their ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in an engaging and accessible way was truly impressive.
The excursion was a wonderful example of student leadership in action and highlighted the value of authentic learning experiences. Not only did our students deepen their own understanding of chemistry through teaching others, but they also inspired curiosity and excitement for science among the next generation of learners.
We are incredibly proud of the way our VCE Chemistry students represented the College and thank St Joseph’s Primary School for their warm welcome. We look forward to continuing to foster a love of science within our wider community.
Our Year 12 Food Studies students explored how sharing food can strengthen friendships by taking part in a Friday Night Platter Night practical activity. Working together to design a shared platter encouraged conversation, cooperation, and positive interaction, helping students feel included and connected. As they created and presented their platters, students discovered how shared meals can build a sense of belonging and deepen relationships with their peers. This activity highlighted the social role of food and reminded students of the joy that comes from spending time with friends around a shared table.
Year 10 Food Technology students recently explored native Australian ingredients by baking a fragrant Lemon Myrtle Cake using leaves sourced from a staff member's own garden. The class learned how Lemon Myrtle contains the highest levels of citral of any plant, giving the cake its distinctive sweet‑lemon aroma. Students prepared the cake from scratch, infused it with a homemade Lemon Myrtle syrup, and finished it with leaf powder for a vibrant Australian twist. This hands‑on experience helped students appreciate the cultural significance, flavour potential, and versatility of native ingredients in modern cooking.
And 7D recently had a wonderful time making Gingerbread!
Year 9 students have been looking at consumer claims and consumer science this term. As part of this the students were given the task of developing an investigation into a consumer product. Here are some photos of 9B students conducting their experiments, which include, do different waters taste different, do different popcorn varieties pop more, how does melting differ between dark milk and white chocolate and which bags hold the most weight.
The students will collect data from their experiments and present their findings in a poster.
