PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

In PE, Term 4 has teed off with golf. Students have been working extremely hard to develop their putting skills. We have focused on correct putting grip and stance, to ensure a really great set up. We have been making sure that we have the ball lined up in the middle of our stance and at a comfortable distance from us to maintain a nice, straight back. Our arms have formed a V, and we have been working on our pendulum swing (same amount of back swing as forward swing).

In foundation, the Preps have been focusing more on aiming for a target. This has allowed them the opportunity to further develop important Fundamental Motor Skills, such as throwing and kicking, as well as beginning to learn to putt a golf ball.

The students have enjoyed designing their own Mini Golf hole in PE during Week 3. Students have worked in pairs or small groups to create a hole, with a defined starting point, a target and they have included a range of obstacles to make putting more challenging. Each small group has then had the opportunity to move around the course and try out the other holes.

In other sporting news:

*It has been wonderful to see the majority of students at Dana Street involved in the annual Swimming Program. Keep up the great work in the water, kids!

*5/6s and 3/4s have had the chance to opt in to compete in a Mini Swimming Challenge on the last day of their lessons, competing in 50m freestyle, backstroke and/or breaststroke events. This is a friendly competition to promote student involvement and allow the kids an opportunity to show off their swimming skills. We are hoping to make this an annual event, seeing as though we don’t get the opportunity to run a formal Swimming Sports Event during the year. Well done to everyone who participated!

*During Week 1, Mikiah Marios (5/6A), competed at the Greater Western Regional Championships, representing Dana Street in the 11-year-old Boys Hurdles Event. This is an absolutely amazing achievement. Mikiah had to qualify at both, District and Division Events earlier this year, to be able to make it through to the Regional Championships. We are so proud of your efforts, Mikiah! Well done!
