Principal's Report

Regional Athletics

Congratulations to the eleven students who proudly represented FNPS at the Regional Athletics Carnival earlier this week. As always, the students demonstrated our values of Kindness, Resilience and Respect at all times and embodied the spirit of good sportsmanship; cheering each other on and celebrating one another’s successes. From here we have two students moving on to represent our school at a state level and we can’t wait to see them continue their journey.

“On Wednesday I competed in Regional Athletics along with 10 others. It was a hot day and all of us were competing in races. I was getting ready to do the high jump while my fellow teammates were preparing for the relay race. The competition was nerve racking, with each person jumping higher and higher. But luckily I came 1st. It was an amazing experience and I am grateful to have participated in regional athletics. Seeing everyone step up and supporting each other made me so proud to be part of such an amazing school and team.

All together this experience has taught me the lessons of perseverance, I am so excited to move on to state championships next month.” (Ellie H – Year 6)

Grade 3/4 Camp

Our Grade 3 and 4 campers are back safe and sound after and exciting, albeit a little soggy, camping program. Heading to Weekaway Camp in Benloch, the children had a wonderful time connecting, exploring and participating in this great camping opportunity. Tonight, I’m sure there will be some very tired returned campers with stories and to share and new friendships made.  Watch this space next week for some student reflections and photos of their experience!

Semester Reports

A Message from our Learning Specialist Hannah Caldow:

We would like to share our appreciation of your continued support in your child/ren's learning journey. It has been incredible to hear how many families have accessed their child/ren's continuous reporting tasks. We hope this has provided valuable insight into your child/ren's learning progression, as well as insight into their classroom and school experience.

This term, your child will receive three continuous reports, a progress report, as well as a Semester Report. The Semester Report will be adapted to reflect the learning already shared across the semester. The Semester Report will include:

  • An Indicator of Progress against each of the Victorian Curriculum Learning Areas.
  • A General Comment for your child, inclusive of an attitude/behaviour comment, an academic comment for Literacy and Numeracy, as well as a personal and social learning comment.
  • An English, Math's, Inquiry and Specialist subject learning overview which outlines what students in the grade level have been focusing on throughout the semester.
  • A personalised specialist observation from each specialist subject area.
  • A student reflection.

We encourage parents to continue to access and discuss their child/ren's continuous reporting tasks at home and with their classroom teachers, as these provide valuable and timely insight into their current academic performance, achievement and learning goals.

We thank our staff in their continued efforts in supporting their student's engagement, understanding and success.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Hannah Caldow.

Student Arrival and Pick-up

There have been an increasing number of students arriving at school quite early each morning. Please be advised that staff supervision begins at 8:45am and children are not supervised in the yard before this time. We ask that parents and carers ensure students are not left unsupervised before official supervision begins.

This is also a reminder to families that, in the interests of keeping your children safe, we ask that you do not double park during drop-off or pick-up times. Double parking causes congestion on the street and creates blind spots for children and families attempting to cross the road. Whilst I understand the difficulties around parking in our area, accidents can inadvertently happen in the blink of an eye, so I ask that all families refrain from this activity.

Student Free Day

As you may be aware, we currently have one student free day scheduled this term on Monday 4 November 2024. This day has been allocated as a whole school Professional Practice Day for our teachers who will spend this time moderating assessments and preparing reports. TheirCare are taking enrolments on this day if required.

2025 Enrolments

As we continue to plan for the 2025 school year, we ask that if you are planning on your child(ren) not being at FNPS in 2025 that you please inform the office in writing to  fitzroy.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au. This information will help the school to confirm enrolment numbers for next year.

If your child is moving on to another school next year, I offer thanks to the children and families for their contribution to and partnership with our school. We wish all the best to those moving on to a new setting in their future learning journey.

Go gently,

Tania
