We are learning to use addition strategies to solve problems. 

 

I can represent the problem. (pictures, symbols, sentences)

 

I can use counting on strategy. 

 8 + 3 = 8, 9, 10, 11 (start at bigger number)

 

I can use partitioning (or part, part whole relationships).

 for example, 8 and 6 is the same as 8 and 2 and 4

 

I can explain how I solved the problem and justify that I used an effective strategy


VOCABULARY

Addition: to combine two smaller numbers or values

 

Strategy: a plan or steps to reach a solution

 

Partitioning: breaking a bigger number value into its smaller parts
