SICK BAY - ASTHMA

Be prepared this POLLEN season

A reminder for those at risk of thunderstorm asthma to stay prepared.

On review of sickbay presentations from last term, we noted that from Monday, 2 September to Friday, 6 September, there was a 500% increase in asthma presentations to sickbay.

You may recall that the week had very stormy weather, which was likely the cause of the increase.

With September to December being the peak thunderstorm and pollen season for the year, we encourage those with asthma or who suffer from hay fever to be prepared for thunderstorm asthma.

Some steps to take to be prepared:

  • If you have reliever medication, ensure it is up to date and accessible.
  • Make sure you have an up-to-date asthma and/or allergy plan and familiarize yourself with it.
  • Monitor the weather and the Victorian Epidemic Thunderstorm Asthma Risk Forecast and prepare accordingly.

Be prepared and stay safe.
